Dan O'Sullivan (Gaelic Footballer)
Daniel Joseph O'Sullivan (1927–2013) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Carrigadrohid, County Cork, O'Sullivan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he first linked up with the Cork junior team. He made his senior debut in the 1950 championship. He was a Munster runner-up on two occasions. At club level, O'Sullivan won one championship medal in the junior grade with Canovee. Throughout his career O'Sullivan made five championship appearances for Cork. He retired from senior inter-county football following the conclusion of the 1953 championship. Canovee GAA is a Gaelic football club based in the villages of Canovee, Aherla and Carrigadrohid in County Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of Cork GAA and Muskerry divisional board. The club does not field hurling teams, but Cloughduv nearby provides opportunities for players who wish to hurl. Carrigadrohid
Carrigadrohid () is a townland and village in the parish of Aghinagh, County Cork, Ireland. It is situated on the north bank of the River Lee, with the nearby village of Canovee to the south. Carrigadrohid is part of the Dáil constituency of Cork North-West. Castle Carrigadrohid castle stands on a rock in the middle of the river Lee, adjacent to the bridge which gives the village its name. It was erected in the 15th century by the MacCarthys of Muskerry, with an extension to the east and an annex to the north being added in subsequent centuries. It was besieged by Parliamentary forces following the Battle of Macroom, and Boetius MacEgan, the Bishop of Ross, was hanged by the reins of his own horse outside the castle having refused to implore the Irish garrison to surrender to the Cromwellian army. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The Cork Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Junior A Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking junior clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fifth tier overall in the entire Cork football championship system. The Cork Junior Championship was introduced in 1895 as a countywide competition for teams deemed not eligible for the senior grade or second-string senior teams. All-Ireland Junior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Football Championship is a GAA competition involving four Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams. Prior to a change in competition structure in 2021, the competition was previously for all Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams in Ireland. In this previous format, the definition of what constituted a Junior player differed from county to county. In some, the junior team was the second team after the senior team. This meant that any players who had not played with the senior team could play with the junior team. In others, such as Cork and Kerry, players could only be chosen from clubs that played in junior or intermediate grades. These counties could not choose players from senior clubs, even if they were not on the senior county team. When a team won this championship, it had to pick a new team for the following year. Munster Junior Football Championship
The Munster Junior Football Championship is a gaelic football tournament between the six counties of Munster: Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and Waterford. It is the third-tier county teams playing off in a single-elimination tournament with 2 quarter finals instead of 4 (as of 2014). The cup was first given to the winners in 1957.
