Dalhousie Tigers Men's Ice Hockey
The Dalhousie Tigers men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Dalhousie Tigers athletics program of Dalhousie University. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Halifax Forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia. History Though Dalhousie has a history of fielding an ice hockey team as far back as 1894, the school played its first official season of varsity men's hockey in 1962. The program's best period was initiated by a run to the CIAU championship gam in 1979 that saw the team win its first conference championship. The Tigers routinely earned a playoff berth over the succeeding 25 years, however, they were never able to capture a second conference title in that span. In the mid 2000s, the program slipped to the bottom of the standings and has remained there since (as of 2023). The Dalhousie Tigers are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The Tigers field 14 varsity teams with seven men's teams and seven women's teams that primarily compete in the Atlantic University Sport conference of U Sports. The UQAC Inuk () are the athletic teams that represent the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada. The university features teams in hockey, cross-country, track and field, and volleyball. UQAC became the 57th member of U Sports in 2023, having last competed in the league in 1986. History The athletic program at UQAC began in 1970 with the formation of the men's hockey team. The team's moniker, Inuk, is an Inuit word for human being. The men's hockey team was a member of the CIAU until 1986 when it disbanded. On June 13, 2023, it was announced that UQAC had been accepted as the 57th member of U Sports on a two-year probation. The Dalhousie Tigers women's ice hockey program represents Dalhousie University in the Atlantic University Sport conference of U Sports. The current head coach is Troy Ryan, who was hired in July 2020. Ryan has not yet coached, as the 2020-21 AUS season was shelved due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Acadia Axemen ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Acadia Axemen athletics program of Acadia University. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Andrew H. McCain Arena (formerly the "Acadia Arena") in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. History Acadia has fielded an ice hockey team since 1905. The UNB Reds men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the UNB Reds athletics program of University of New Brunswick. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. History Students at UNB have been associated with ice hockey as far back as 1880. The first organized game occurred in 1897 when an informal team played against a Canadian Army Company. The Guelph Gryphons men's ice hockey team is an active ice hockey program representing the Guelph Gryphons athletic department of the University of Guelph. The team has been active since the formation of the college in 1964 and is currently a member of the Ontario University Athletics conference under the authority of U Sports.
