David "Dai" Evans (1872 – 29 January 1912) was a Welsh international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Penygraig and international rugby for Wales. Evans was born in Maenclochog, Pembrokeshire, but came to the Rhondda Valley to find work.Parry-Jones (1999), pg 36. A policeman by profession,Smith (1980), pg 92. Evans was one of the first 'Rhondda forwards', an aggressive style of forward player who was expected to play a more physical style game. Maenclochog
Maenclochog () is a village, parish and Community (Wales), community in Pembrokeshire, south-west Wales. It is also the name of Maenclochog (electoral ward), an electoral ward comprising a wider area of four surrounding communities. Maenclochog Community includes the small settlement of Llanycefn () and the village of Rosebush, Pembrokeshire, Rosebush. The Maenclochog community population was 731 in 2011. Maenclochog lies south of the Preseli Mountains, about one mile southeast of Rosebush on the B4313 Narberth, Pembrokeshire, Narberth to Fishguard road. Origin of the name The origin of the name Maenclochog is unclear. It appears to be made up of two Welsh words, ''maen'' ("stone") and ''clochog'' ("noisy, clamorous"). Tuberculosis (TB), also known colloquially as the "white death", or historically as consumption, is a contagious disease usually caused by ''Mycobacterium tuberculosis'' (MTB) bacteria. Jere Blake
John "Jere" Blake (1875 – 15 February 1933) was a Welsh rugby union forward who played club rugby for Cardiff and international rugby for Wales. He was part of the 1900 Wales Triple Crown winning team. Rugby career Blake was first capped for Wales during the 1899 Home Nations Championship in the opening game against England. The selectors made multiple changes to the team that finished the previous season, with only six players returning to the squad from that game. Blake was one of five new caps to be brought into the pack, while the Swansea half-back pairing of Evan and David James returned into the team after their reinstatement to the rugby union code. The game was a massive loss for England, with Wales running in six tries, four by Willie Llewellyn.
