Dafydd Elis-Thomas
Dafydd Elis Elis-Thomas, Baron Elis-Thomas, (; 18 October 1946 – 7 February 2025) was a Welsh politician who served as the leader of Plaid Cymru from 1984 to 1991 and represented the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency in the Senedd from 1999 to 2021. Born in Carmarthen, Wales, he was raised in Ceredigion and the Conwy Valley. He represented Merioneth and later Meirionnydd Nant Conwy as a member of Parliament (MP) from 1974 to 1992, and was Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales from the office's inception in 1999 to 2011. Elis-Thomas was a member of the House of Lords and a privy counsellor from 1992 and 2004, respectively, until his death. From 2007 to 2017 he was the Chancellor of Bangor University. Biography Llywelyn, born in South Wales, received his first piano lessons from his fatherForstenried-Konzerte München i. G.: Dafydd Llywelyn' and later from priests in a monastic boarding school in the Midlands. His other teachers include the British pianist Tom Bromley, Johann Trygvasson (father-in-law of Vladimir Ashkenazy) and Peter Feuchtwanger (nephew of the writer Lion Feuchtwanger). Dafydd Iwan Jones (born 24 August 1943) is a Welsh people, Welsh singer and Welsh nationalism, nationalist politician who rose to fame writing and performing folk music in the Welsh language. David Richards (Dafydd Ionawr)
David Richards (22 January 1751 – 12 May 1827), better-known by his bardic name Dafydd Ionawr, was a Welsh-language poet, born at Glanyrafon near Bryncrug, Bryn-crug in the parish of Tywyn in Merionethshire (now Gwynedd), north-west Wales. He took an interest in poetry as a result of his acquaintance with Evan Evans (poet), Evan Evans (Ieuan Brydydd Hir), who was curate of St Cadfan's Church, Tywyn, and was later sent to a school at Ystradmeurig to obtain a better education than was available locally. After a period as a junior schoolmaster in Wrexham, he spent one term at Jesus College, Oxford, before going to teach at Oswestry grammar school. He then taught at the grammar school in Carmarthen before being appointed head of a free school in his native area. From 1800 to 1807, he taught in Dolgellau, where he remained until his death. Dafydd Ifans (born 21 April 1949) is a contemporary Welsh language novelist and translator, born in Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, west Wales. Personal life Dafydd Ifans was born in Aberystwyth, Wales in 1949. After finishing in Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth in 1960, between 1960 and 1967 he studied at the Ardwyn Grammar School in Aberystwyth. In 1970 he got his BA-degree at the University of Wales in Bangor. In 1972 he got his diploma in palaeography and archive administration, and his MA in 1974. From 1972 until 1975 he served a research assistant at the Department of Manuscripts and Records in the National Library of Wales. Dafydd Ieuan
Dafydd Ieuan (born 1 March 1969) is a Welsh musician, best known as the drummer with the band Super Furry Animals, The Peth and The Earth. Ieuan played with Gruff Rhys in their early band Ffa Coffi Pawb. He was a drummer for Welsh band Catatonia from 1993 to 1996, recording on their early singles and debut album '' Way Beyond Blue'' (1996). During the same period, Super Furry Animals formed and Ieuan left Catatonia to focus on them. Ieuan runs the Cardiff-based label and recording studio Strangetown Records with brother Cian Ciaran and Mick Hilton. With Ciaran, he was awarded by BAFTA Wales 2011 for Original Music for the S4C drama ''Pen Talar'' filmed by Fiction Factory.
