DCIAA
The District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) is the public high school athletic league in Washington, D.C. The league was founded in 1958. The original high school conference for D.C. schools was the Inter-High School Athletic Association, formed around 1896. That organization was segregated, and black schools in the District formed their own athletic association. The Inter-High League was renamed the DCIAA in 1989 to bring the District of Columbia in line with other states with interscholastic athletic programs. The DCIAA offers sports on the elementary, middle and high school levels (grades 4th through 12th). Anacostia High School
Anacostia High School is a public high school in Anacostia, in the Southeast (Washington, D.C.), Southeast quadrant of the District of Columbia. History In August 2009, Friendship Public Charter School partnered with DC Public Schools to manage the high school. As a result, the school became known as the Academies at Anacostia and was split into four separate academies. In 2009–10, there were two ninth-grade academies (Sojourner Truth and Charles Drew), one 10-12th grade academy (Frederick Douglass), and one academy for under-credited and overage students (Matthew Henson). Ballou High School
Frank W. Ballou Senior High School is a public school located in Washington, D.C., United States. Ballou is a part of the District of Columbia Public Schools. History Ballou High School was founded in the early 1960s to serve residents in the Southeast part of Washington, DC to include Congress Heights, Washington Highlands, and Bellevue. The school was named for Frank Washington Ballou, the D.C. public schools superintendent from 1920 to 1943. In 1998, author Ron Suskind published the book " A Hope in the Unseen" about a Ballou High School student named Cedric Jennings. The book was based on a series of Pulitzer-prize winning articles written in ''The Wall Street Journal'' by Suskind. Ballou proposed building a new high school for students living in Manor Park and Takoma Park. Benjamin Banneker Academic High School (BBAHS) is a magnet school, magnet high school located in Washington, D.C., that was originally built to serve as a neighborhood Junior High School. The school's name commemorates Benjamin Banneker, an African-American scientist, surveyor, almanac author and farmer. In 1980, the school was converted to a magnet high school for academics.
