''Man to Men'' (French: ''D'homme à hommes'') is a 1948 French-Swiss historical drama film directed by Christian-Jaque and starring Jean-Louis Barrault, Bernard Blier and Hélène Perdrière. It was shot at the Billancourt Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Robert Gys. Plot The film depicts Henri Dunant and the founding of the Red Cross in the nineteenth century after he had witnessed the suffering of troops at the Battle of Solferino. He wins the support of the wealthy Elsa Kastner, but faces ruin and disgrace at the hands of his creditors. Decades later, after years of obscurity, he is awarded the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901. Christian-Jaque
Christian-Jaque (byname of Christian Maudet; 4 September 1904 – 8 July 1994) was a French filmmaker. From 1954 to 1959, he was married to actress Martine Carol, who starred in several of his films, including ''Lucrèce Borgia'' (1953), ''Madame du Barry (1954 film), Madame du Barry'' (1954), and ''Nana (1955 film), Nana'' (1955). In 1961 he married Laurence Christo Christian-Jaque's 1946 film ''A Lover's Return'' was entered into the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. The Battle of Solferino (referred to in Italy as the Battle of Solferino and San Martino) on 24 June 1859 resulted in the victory of the allied Second French Empire, French army under Napoleon III and the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, Piedmont-Sardinian army under Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II (together known as the Franco-Sardinian alliance) against the Austrian Empire, Austrian army under Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, Franz Joseph I. Carmen Boni (born Maria Carmela Bonicatti; 8 April 1901 – 18 November 1963) was an Italian actress. Biography Maria Carmela Bonicatti was born on 8 April 1901 in Rome to a colonel and Teresa Rovere di Bergeggi. Her birth date has also been given as 17 April 1904. Her brother was the cinematographer Mario Bonicatti. In 1919, Bonicatti made her film debut in ''Ave Maria, gratia plena!'', which was directed by Diana Karenne. Berthe Bovy (6 January 1887 – 26 February 1977), sometimes known as Betty Bovy, was a Belgian actress who appeared in theatre, films and television programmes for over 60 years. Biography Born Berthe Marguerite Jeanne Bovy, she was the daughter of poet and journalist Théophile Bovy, she was born in Cheratte, now part of the commune of Visé, in the province of Liège. Seemingly interested in acting from an early age, an interest which her father encouraged, she enrolled in the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels following a meeting with Sarah Bernhardt. From 1904 to 1906 she studied at the CNSAD in Paris. She joined the Comédie-Française in 1907.
