Cuba ( , ), officially the Republic of Cuba ( es, República de Cuba, links=no ), is an island country comprising the island of Cuba, as well as Isla de la Juventud and several minor archipelagos. Cuba is located where the northern Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and Atlantic Ocean meet. Cuba is located east of the Yucatán Peninsula (Mexico), south of both the American state of Florida and the Bahamas, west of Hispaniola ( Haiti/Dominican Republic), and north of both Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Havana is the largest city and capital; other major cities include Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey. ¡Patria O Muerte, Venceremos!
Patria o Muerte, Venceremos is an official national motto of Cuba, adopted in 1960. The origin of the motto was derived from a speech by revolutionary leader Fidel Castro to commemorate the workers and soldiers who died in the La Coubre explosion on March 5, 1960 at the harbour in Havana. The motto was originally written as ''Patria o Muerte'' ("Homeland or death"), with the word ''Venceremos'' ("we will prevail") added in July 1960 during the Congress of the National Federation of Barber and Hairdressing Workers. Esteban Lazo Hernández
Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández (born 26 February 1944) is a Cuban politician who has been the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Cuba's parliament, since 2013. Previously he was Vice-President of the Cuban Council of State. He is a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba since 1980 and National Assembly of People's Power member since 1981. On February 25, 2013, Lazo was named as the President of the National Assembly of People's Power. Early life Lazo Hernández was born on 26 February 1944 in Jovellanos, Matanzas. Manuel (Puerca Jarta) Marrero Cruz (born 11 July 1963) is a Cuban politician currently serving as the Prime Minister of Cuba, and the first since re-establishment of the office of Prime Minister in December 2019 after the 43-year abolition of the position dating from 1976. The last Prime Minister before the abolition of the office was Fidel Castro. Marrero is the first person to hold the position of Prime Minister of Cuba in 43 years. Miguel Díaz-Canel
Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel y Bermúdez (; born 20 April 1960) also known as MADCB, is a politician and engineer who is the third first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba. Díaz-Canel succeeds the brothers Fidel and Raúl Castro, making him the first non-Castro leader of Cuba since the revolution. Díaz-Canel's leadership thus represents a non-dynastic form of succession for the party as well as for the state, and the end of Castro leadership in Cuba. Díaz-Canel has been a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party since 2003, and served as Minister of Higher Education from 2009 to 2012. The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba is an organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. History The Secretariat of the Central Committee was established on 3 October 1965 when the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution was transformed into the present-day Communist Party of Cuba. It was implementing the decisions of the Politburo and Central Committee, and led by the First and Second Secretary of the Central Committee. Of the ten members elected to the Provisional Secretariat three concurrently served as members of the Provisional Politburo. The Secretariat was abolished at the 4th Party Congress, held on 10–14 October 1991, with the intention of streamlining the party's decision-making process. Communist State
A communist state, also known as a Marxist–Leninist state, is a one-party state that is administered and governed by a communist party guided by Marxism–Leninism. Marxism–Leninism was the state ideology of the Soviet Union, the Comintern after Bolshevisation and the communist states within the Comecon, the Eastern Bloc and the Warsaw Pact. Marxism–Leninism currently still remains the ideology of a few parties around the world.
