Cox's Criminal Cases
Cox's Criminal Cases are a series of law reports of cases decided from 1843 to 26 June 1941. They were published in 31 volumes from 1846 to 1948. They were then incorporated in the Times Law Reports. Learning The Law
Learning the Law is a book written by Glanville Williams and edited by him and A. T. H. Smith. It professes to be a "Guide, Philosopher and Friend". The tome is a "standard" work which has been called a "classic", and said to be "useful" and "most original". The Law Journal said they expected it to become a vade mecum for those studying law. Archbold Criminal Pleading, Evidence And Practice
''Archbold Criminal Pleading, Evidence and Practice'' (usually called simply ''Archbold'') is the leading practitioners' text for criminal lawyers in England and Wales and several other common law jurisdictions around the world. It has been in publication since 1822, when it was first written by John Frederick Archbold, and is currently published by Sweet & Maxwell, a subsidiary of Thomson Reuters. Forty-three revisions were published prior to 1992 and since then it has been published annually. Its authority is such that it is often quoted in court. Edward William Cox
Edward William Cox known as Serjeant Cox (1809–1879) was an English lawyer and legal writer, who was also a successful publisher. He has been described as "the greatest entrepreneur of 'class' journalism". Early life Cox was born in Taunton, the son of William Cox, a manufacturer and Harriet, daughter of William Upcott of Exeter. He became a solicitor in Taunton, and in 1836 established a local newspaper there, the ''Somerset County Gazette''. He was called to the bar in 1843, joined the Western Circuit, and sold the title. Legal career Cox moved to London to pursue his career as a barrister. His periodicals, reports and textbooks led to him being raised to the dignity of serjeant at law in 1868 – rather than his modest practice as a lawyer. He held various significant legal appointments – Recorder of Helston and Falmouth 1857–1868 which he resigned when gaining the more important appointment as Recorder of Portsmouth. Owen Hood Phillips
Owen Hood Phillips, QC (30 September 1907 – 25 May 1986) was a British jurist. He was Lady Barber Professor of Jurisprudence at the University of Birmingham and Dean of the Faculty of Law, Vice-Principal and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of that university. The son of Surgeon-Captain John Elphinstone Hood Phillips, RN and of Kathleen Marian Esther, , Phillips was educated at Weymouth College, and went up to Merton College, Oxford in 1926, graduating MA and BCL. He was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1930. After pupillages, Phillips did not practise at the bar, instead opting for an academic career. He was a lecturer at King's College, London from 1931 to 1935, at Trinity College Dublin from 1935 to 1937, when he returned to King's College as Reader in English Law and vice-dean.
