In type theory, containers are abstractions which permit various "collection types", such as lists and trees, to be represented in a uniform way. A ( unary) container is defined by a type of ''shapes'' S and a type family of ''positions'' P, indexed by S. The ''extension'' of a container is a family of dependent pairs consisting of a shape (of type S) and a function from positions of that shape to the element type. Containers can be seen as canonical forms for collection types. For lists, the shape type is the natural numbers (including zero). A container format (informally, sometimes called a wrapper) or metafile is a file format that allows multiple data streams to be embedded into a single file, usually along with metadata for identifying and further detailing those streams. Notable examples of container formats include archive files (such as the ZIP format) and formats used for multimedia playback (such as Matroska, MP4, and AVI). Among the earliest cross-platform container formats were Distinguished Encoding Rules and the 1985 Interchange File Format. Design Although containers may identify how data or metadata is encoded, they do not actually provide instructions about how to decode that data. A program that can open a container must also use an appropriate codec to decode its contents. If the program doesn't have the required algorithm, it can't use the contained data. Container is an economic simulation board game for three to five players, released in 2007, and re-released in a special edition in 2017. The game was designed by Franz-Benno Delonge, Thomas Ewert and Kevin Nesbitt. The game is themed around the shipping industry, and the primary pieces in the game are shipping containers. The players produce, buy, sell, ship and store containers with the general goal of maximizing overall profits. Economic considerations such as supply and demand, cash management, return on investment and efficient use of resources are natural consequences of the game's buying and selling rules. Gameplay Each player owns a shipyard with an attached production facility for goods, as well as a ship that can be used to transport goods. ''Container'' is a Swedish film by Lukas Moodysson. It premiered at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival on February 11, 2006. The movie is in black and white and was described by Moodysson as "a silent movie with sound". The only sound in the film is a spoken stream-of-consciousness monologue which is only loosely related to the visuals. It was shot in Cluj, Romania, Chernobyl, Ukraine and Trollhättan, Sweden. Container (29B6) radar (russian: 29Б6 «Контейнер») is the new generation of Russian over-the-horizon radar, providing long distance airspace monitoring and ballistic missile detection. The first radar, near Kovylkino, Mordovia, Russia, became operational in December 2013 and entered combat duty on 1 December, 2019. Another Container radar is planned to be deployed in Kaliningrad.
