Colin's Sandwich
''Colin's Sandwich'' is a British sitcom that was broadcast on BBC2 in 1988 and 1990. It starred Mel Smith as Colin Watkins, a British Rail administrator who aspired to be a horror writer. The show was written by Paul Smith and Terry Kyan and ran for two series of six episodes (18 October – 22 November 1988 and 12 January – 16 February 1990). In the second series, Colin manages to achieve some small successes as a writer. Premise The central character, Colin Watkins, is an educated, intelligent, neurotic man in his mid-thirties. By day he works in a dead-end job for the now defunct British Rail in their complaints department. He frequently has to listen all day to (and attempt to appease) a combination of complainants and abusive customers. Paul Smith (television Writer)
Paul Smith (born November 18 1961) is a British television writer who was born and lives in London. Smith's four-part BBC1 drama One Night (executive producer Hilary Salmon) won the Reflet D'Or for Best Drama Series at the 2012 Festival Tous Ecrans as well as making the official selection for FIPA Biarritz. Lead writer on Jam Media/CBBC's pioneering live action/animation series ''ROY'' (RTS Award for Best Children's Drama 2010, two 2011 BAFTA nominations, including Writers' Award), Smith also wrote ten-part CBBC teen drama series ''Desperados'' (Prix Jeunesse 2008), about a junior wheelchair basketball team. British Sitcom
A British sitcom or a Britcom is a situational comedy programme produced for British television. Most British sitcoms are recorded on studio sets, while some have an element of location filming. A handful are made almost exclusively on location (for example, '' Last of the Summer Wine'') and shown to a studio audience prior to final post-production. A subset of British comedy consciously avoids traditional situation comedy themes, storylines, and home settings to focus on more unusual topics or narrative methods. Gold (British TV Channel)
Gold is a British pay television channel from the UKTV network that was launched in late 1992 as UK Gold before it was rebranded UKTV Gold in 2004. In 2008, it was split into current flagship channel Gold and miscellaneous channel, W, with classic comedy based programming now airing on Gold, non-crime drama and entertainment programming airing on W, and quiz shows and more high-brow comedy airing on Dave. British Rail
British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was a state-owned company that operated most of the overground rail transport in Great Britain from 1948 to 1997. It was formed from the nationalisation of the Big Four British railway companies, and was privatised in stages between 1994 and 1997. BBC Two

Melvyn Kenneth Smith (3 December 1952 – 19 July 2013) was an English comedian, actor and director. Smith worked on the sketch comedy shows ''Not the Nine O'Clock News'' and ''Alas Smith and Jones'' with his comedy partner, Griff Rhys Jones. Smith and Jones founded Talkback (production company), Talkback, which grew to be one of the United Kingdom's largest producers of television comedy and light entertainment programming. Jamie Rix (born 27 April 1958) is an English children's author, television comedy writer, and media producer. He is best known for the book series ''Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids'' and '' The War Diaries of Alistair Fury''; both were adapted into award-winning children's television programmes. Career Rix studied Drama and English at the University of Kent, and worked as an assistant stage manager at Royal Court Theatre to learn how to direct plays. On holiday in France, he created a white lie story, ''The Spaghetti Man'', in order to make his four-year-old son eat his dinner.
