Chung-Hua Institution For Economic Research
The Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER; ) is a Taiwan-based international policy think tank for economic and industry-related research. It conducts both public research and fee-supported research. History After the ending of diplomatic relations between the Republic of China and the United States in 1979, the Government of the Republic of China drew up a very crucial measures for financial and economic reform. Among them was the proposal to establish an independent research institution with government funding and financial support from the industrial and business sectors. The legal entity was to undertake the task of studying the local and international economic situation and to offer policy recommendations to the government. After the project was approved, the Executive Yuan entrusted the Council for Economic Planning and Development to guide and plan the institution's establishment. Daan District, Taipei
Daan District (or Da-an District, Da'an, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency District) is an important educational, commercial, residential and cultural district of Taipei City, Republic of China (Taiwan). The name of the district means "great safety" or "great peace". The Executive Yuan () is the executive branch of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Its leader is the Premier, who is appointed by the President of the Republic of China, and requires confirmation by the Legislative Yuan. Under the amended constitution, the head of the Executive Yuan is the Premier who is positioned as the head of government and has the power to appoint members to serve in the cabinet, while the ROC President is the head of state under the semi-presidential system, who can appoint the Premier and nominate the members of the cabinet. Council For Economic Planning And Development
The Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD; ) was a government agency responsible for drafting overall plans for national economic development in Taiwan (ROC). It also assessed development projects, proposals and programmes submitted to the Executive Yuan. Mai Chao-cheng
Mai Chao-cheng (; 1941/1942 – 6 March 2019) was a Taiwanese economist. He was a distinguished professor of Tamkang University and served as an advisor to President Chen Shui-bian. He was elected an academician of Academia Sinica in 1994. Biography Mai studied at National Taiwan University, where he earned his BA in 1966 and his MA in 1970. He continued his studies in the United States, earning another MA from the University of Rochester in 1973 and his Ph.D. in economics from Texas A&M University in 1976. After returning to Taiwan, he taught at National Chengchi University from 1976–80, and was a joint appointment professor at National Taiwan University from 1979 to 1999. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard–Yenching Institute from 1981-82.
