William Benning Webb (September 17, 1825 March 13, 1896) was an American politician and attorney who was the Police Superintendent of Washington, D.C., and president of the board of commissioners for the District of Columbia, U.S., from 1886 to 1889. He was the first President of the Board of Commissioners to be born in Washington. Biography Webb was born in the City of Washington, DC on September 17, 1825. Peter Newsham (born ) was the Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD) from January 2017 to January 2021. He is currently Chief of the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia, having been appointed to that post in November, 2020. Cathy Lynn Lanier (born July 22, 1967) is a former Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPDC).
