The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine ( uk, Головне управління розвідки Міністерства оборони України, translit=Holovne upravlinnia rozvidky Ministerstva oborony Ukrainy), also known as HUR MO () or alternatively spelled GUR is the military intelligence service of the Ukrainian government. It is a subdivision of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, not the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was built upon the existing intelligence assets of the Kyiv, Odesa and Carpathian military districts of the Soviet Armed Forces and its Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU). The agency's former motto was "Statehood, professionalism, decency". Since 2016, the agency uses the motto "The Wise will rule the Stars" ( la, Sapiens Dominabitur Astris). Rybalskyi Peninsula
Rybalskyi Island ( uk, Рибальський півострів, translit. ; literally: Fisherman's island) is a misnomer for an actual peninsula on the Dnieper River, located in the right-bank Podil neighborhood and Kyiv Harbor of the city of Kyiv. Although named as an island it is in fact a peninsula and a former spit serving as a left-bank of a former Pochaina River that with time transformed into several oxbow lakes located in Obolon (see Opechen lakes). The peninsula is now a predominantly industrial area. History The peninsula was formed from clay deposits, which served as the left-bank of the Pochaina River. Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Skipalsky ( uk, Олександр Олександрович Скіпальський, born March 12, 1945) is a Ukrainian military officer and spy. For over 20 years he worked as a Soviet border guard and military counterintelligence. Skipalsky was born on March 12, 1945, in a village of Vyzhhiv (today in Liuboml Raion). Born in the Western Ukraine, he was growing up in Yenakieve (Eastern Ukraine) where he finished a high school and vocational college. In 1968 Skipalsky graduated the Moscow Border Guard military college, after which he served for the border guard troops in Ukraine. Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general.
