Chechens In Jordan
Chechens of Jordan are Chechens who have inhabited Jordan since the expulsion of Caucasians in the 19th century. Chechens have played an important role in the foundation of Jordan as a modern state. History Expulsion In the second half of the 19th century, the Russian Empire was fighting the peoples of the Caucasus in an expansionist war, known as the Caucasian War. One of the outcomes of the war was that many native peoples of the Caucasus were forcefully expelled to the Ottoman Empire. An estimated 5,000 Chechen families were expelled to the Ottoman Empire. In March 1903, the Ottoman authorities sent the first 700 Chechen families to the region of Transjordan. The Chechens settlers chose to settle non-populated areas most suitable for agriculture and close to water sources. These settlers founded Zarqa, Jordan's second largest city. Chechen Language
Chechen (, ) (, , ) is a Northeast Caucasian language spoken by 2 million people, mostly in the Chechen Republic and by members of the Chechen diaspora throughout Russia and the rest of Europe, Jordan, Central Asia (mainly Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan) and Georgia. Classification Chechen is a Northeast Caucasian language. Together with the closely related Ingush, with which there exists a large degree of mutual intelligibility and shared vocabulary, it forms the Vainakh branch. Dialects There are a number of Chechen dialects: Ehki, Chantish, Chebarloish, Malkhish, Nokhchmakhkakhoish, Orstkhoish, Sharoish, Shuotoish, Terloish, Itum-Qalish and Himoish. The Kisti dialect of Georgia is not easily understood by northern Chechens without a few days' practice. Jordan has a population of around 11 million inhabitants as of 2021. Jordanians ( ar, أردنيون) are the citizens of Jordan. Some 95% percent of Jordanians are Arabs, while the remaining 5% are other ethnic minorities. Around 2.9 million were non-citizens, a figure including refugees, legal and illegal immigrants. Ahmad Aladdin
Ahmad Aladdin Arslan (died 17 November 2014) was a Jordanian military leader of Chechen descent. He attained the rank of Major General. He was the only officer to have received the Jordanian Order of Military Gallantry " Wisam al-Iqdam al-Askari" twice. He led the response to the 1976 terrorist attack on the Amman InterContinental Hotel. Death and burial Aladdin was en route to receive medical treatment in Germany when he died during the flight, aged 72. He was subsequently buried on 19 November 2014 in the Chechen Cemetery in the city of Zarqa. He was buried with military honours.
