Cathal Ó Murchadha
Cathal Ó Murchadha (; born Charles Murphy; 16 February 1880 – 28 April 1958) was an Irish politician and republican. Early life He was born in 7 Albert Place East, Dublin, and was the third of 7 boys, he was the only one that married. His parents were Charles Murphy, a carpenter, and Mary Cullen. He attended Westland Row Christian Brothers School, as very many future Irish republicans did, including Patrick and Willie Pearse. After leaving school in 1897, he took up a career as a solicitor's clerk, an occupation that would train him well for the many administrative and financial positions he would take in the Republican movement. As an adult he was very involved in St Andrew's Church in Westland Row and St Andrew's Catholic Club, at 4 Sandwith Street, which later moved to 144 Pearse Street. Charles Webb Murphy (January 22, 1868 – October 16, 1931) was the owner of the Chicago Cubs of the National League from through . Overview Originally a sportswriter for ''The Cincinnati Enquirer'' and the ''Cincinnati Times-Star'', Murphy joined the New York Giants front office in 1905. After the 1905 season, Murphy purchased the Cubs from Jim Hart, in a bid financed by a loan from Charles Phelps Taft, owner of the '' Enquirer''. Murphy repaid the loan in full with the profits from the 1906 season. It was under Murphy's ownership that the Cubs won the franchise's only two World Series titles before 2016, in 1907 and 1908. After several years as Cubs owner, Murphy became a disliked figure amongst other owners in the National League, the press, and his players. Charles Francis Murphy (February 9, 1890 – May 22, 1985) was an American architect based in Chicago, Illinois. Biography Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Murphy was educated at the De La Salle Institute in Chicago. His first job was as a secretary, joining the offices of D.H. Burnham & Company in 1911 and he was steadily promoted to become personal secretary to the architect Ernest Graham. After Graham died in 1936, Murphy moved on to co-found the architectural practice Shaw, Naess & Murphy with Alfred P. Shaw and Sigurd E. Naess (1886 - 1970). Murphy had no formal training as an architect at the time. He was next part of Naess & Murphy. The practice was later renamed C. F. Murphy Associates and later Murphy/Jahn Inc. in 1983 when Helmut Jahn took over as president. Charles Carroll "Stretch" Murphy (April 10, 1907 – August 17, 1992) was an American basketball player. He played competitive basketball at Marion High School (1922–26), located in Marion, Indiana. The All-State player led his school to the Indiana state championship in 1926 during his senior year. He was recruited by men's head coach, Ward Lambert, at Purdue University, where he played for four seasons (1926–1930). Scoring 137 points (11.4 ppg), he teamed with fellow Hall of Famer John Wooden and co-captain Glen Harmeson, to lead the Boilers to the Big 10 championship in 1930 after an undefeated season in conference play (10-0).
