Local elections were held in Cape Verde on 4 September 2016. They were a landslide victory for the Movement for Democracy (MpD), that won 18 out of 22 municipalities (13 in 2012). The African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) won 2 municipalities (8 in 2012). São Lourenço dos Órgãos is a '' concelho'' (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the mountainous central part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city João Teves. São Domingos, Cape Verde (municipality)
São Domingos is a '' concelho'' (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the southeastern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city São Domingos (''Várzea da Igreja''). Its population was 13,699 at the 2010 census, and its area is 147.5 km2. The two major settlements in the concelho are São Domingos and Praia Baixo, São Domingos (population about 3,000) being the largest settlement in the area. Smaller settlements in the area include Água do Gato, Achada Banana and Rui Vaz, which is situated on the edge of a 1 km high cliff overlooking Ribeirão Galinha. While Rui Vaz and Praia Baixo are the main tourist draws in the area, tourism does not constitute a major factor in the region’s overwhelmingly agrarian economy. Santa Cruz is a '' concelho'' (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the eastern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Pedra Badejo. Its population was 26,617 at the 2010 census, and its area is 112.2 km2. Economy Its economy is based in agriculture, in which rural population produces agricultural commodities for export to larger markets in Praia, Assomada and Fogo. Small market centers exist in São Lourenço dos Órgãos and Pedra Badejo, which act primary as commodity exchanges where subsistence farmers exchange goods as available with merchants who transport and sell goods in larger markets. The primary agricultural productions include fodder (usually in the form of maize stalks), bananas, papayas and coconuts.
