Cadastral Divisions Of South Australia
The lands administrative divisions of South Australia are the cadastral (i.e., comprehensively surveyed and mapped) units of counties and hundreds in South Australia. They are located only in the south-eastern part of the state, and do not cover the whole state. 49 counties have been proclaimed across the southern and southeastern areas of the state historically considered to be arable and thus in need of a cadastre. Within that area, a total of 540 hundreds have been proclaimed, although five were annulled in 1870, and, in some cases, the names reused elsewhere. All South Australian hundreds have unique names, making it unnecessary, when referring to a hundred, to also name its county (as is done in some land administration systems such as that of New South Wales). With the exception of the historic Hundred of Murray (1853–1870), which occupied parts of five counties, all hundreds have been defined as a subset of a single county. County Of Adelaide
The County of Adelaide is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia and contains the city of Adelaide. It was proclaimed on 2 June 1842 by Governor Grey. It is bounded by the Gawler River and North Para River in the north, the Mount Lofty Ranges in the east, and Gulf St Vincent in the west. The south border runs from Aldinga Bay to Willunga South and Mount Magnificent. The county held at least 60% of South Australia's population between 1855 and 1921; this figure rose to 70.6% in 1966. Hundred Of Jellicoe
The Hundred of Jellicoe (formerly Hundred of North Rhine) is a cadastral hundred in the County of Eyre in South Australia. It is located on the east Mount Lofty Ranges foothills. The Hundred of North Rhine was proclaimed in 1851 but the name was changed in 1918 to the current, after Admiral John Jellicoe, as part of a process to remove "names of enemy origin" at the time of World War I. The Hundred of Jellicoe includes the township and most of the locality of Truro, Towitta, Keyneton and a portion of the western edge of the locality of Sedan. The original name "North Rhine" is in reference to the North Rhine River, a tributary of the Marne River (formerly known as South Rhine). Hundred Of Beatty
The Hundred of Beatty, formerly the Hundred of Krichauff is a cadastral unit of hundred located in the Murraylands of South Australia spanning the localities of Beatty and Mount Mary. History The hundred was proclaimed in 1883 in the County of Eyre and named 'Krichauff' for the state parliamentarian Friedrich Krichauff. In 1888 the District Council of Morgan was established in the area as part of the District Councils Act 1887. It included seven hundreds in addition to the Hundred of Beatty. In 1918 many South Australian place "names of enemy origin" were changed to sound less German and the hundred was renamed to 'Beatty' after David Beatty, a British naval leader in the First World War. Aboriginal Australians are the various Indigenous peoples of the Australian mainland and many of its islands, such as Tasmania, Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island, the Tiwi Islands, and Groote Eylandt, but excluding the Torres Strait Islands.
