Yishun ( ), formerly known as Nee Soon, is a New towns of Singapore, residential town located in the northeastern corner of the North Region, Singapore, North Region of Singapore, bordering Simpang and Sembawang to the north, Mandai to the west, the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, Central Water Catchment to its southwest, Ang Mo Kio to its south, as well as Seletar and Sengkang to its east and southeast respectively. Etymology The name Yishun () is the Mandarin Chinese equivalent of "Nee Soon", the given name of Lim Nee Soon (Chinese language, Chinese: ), a prominent industrialist who made his fortune from the rubber and pineapple plantations he had in the area. Yishun planning area is divided into nine sub-zones namely Khatib, Lower Seletar, Nee Soon, North Land, Springleaf, Yishun Central, Yishun East, Yishun South and Yishun West. Khatib MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South MRT line, North South line (NSL) located in Khatib, Singapore, a subzone in Yishun, Yishun planning area. The station is located at the junction of Yishun Ring Road and Yishun Avenue 2, and is one of the two stations that currently serve Yishun New Town; the other being Yishun MRT station, Yishun station. The section of tracks between this station and Yio Chu Kang MRT station, Yio Chu Kang station is the longest between any two stations on the MRT network. History Formerly named Nee Soon South, it was renamed to Khatib in January 1987 after Sungei Khatib Bongsu, a river nearby, and a military base nearby, along with Yishun station which was initially named Nee Soon.
