Wyre (historically known as Viera and Veira) is one of the Orkney, Orkney Islands, lying south-east of Rousay. It is and at its highest point. Borough Of Wyre
Wyre is a local government district with borough status on the coast of Lancashire, England. The council is based in Poulton-le-Fylde and the borough also contains the towns of Cleveleys, Fleetwood, Garstang, Preesall and Thornton, along with numerous villages and surrounding rural areas. Some of the borough's built-up areas form part of the wider Blackpool urban area. Eastern parts of the borough lie within the Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The borough is named after the River Wyre, which runs through the area and meets the sea at Fleetwood. There are no road or rail connections between the parts of the borough either side of the Wyre estuary, and it is necessary to cross the neighbouring Fylde district in order to travel between the two parts of Wyre, or else use the Wyre Estuary Ferry between Fleetwood and Knott End. River Wyre
The River Wyre, in Lancashire, England, flows into the Irish Sea at Fleetwood. It is 28 miles (45 km) long and has a sheltered estuary which penetrates deep into the Fylde peninsula. Etymology The name ''Wyre'' is of pre-Roman, likely, if specific, Common Brittonic origin. It may be derived from ''*wiΣ-'', a form of the element ', with a basic sense of "flowing", with the suffix '. The River Wyre possibly shares its etymology with other Hydronym, river names, including the River Wear, Wear in County Durham and the Quair Water in Scotland. The river's name possibly means 'winding river' in Celtic. Geography The river rises in the Forest of Bowland in central Lancashire, as two distinct tributaries—the Tarnbrook Wyre and the Marshaw Wyre—whose confluence is near the village of Abbeystead. Wyre Forest
__NOTOC__ Wyre Forest is a large, semi-natural (partially unmanaged) woodland and forest measuring which straddles the borders of Worcestershire and Shropshire, England. Knowles Mill, a former corn mill owned by the National Trust lies within the forest. Natural history The forest covers an area in local terms of 2,634 hectares (6,509 acres, ) and is noted for its variety of wildlife. Although now the Wyre Forest has been much deforested, it still extends from east of the A442 at Shatterford, north of Kidderminster in the east, almost to Cleobury Mortimer in the west and from Upper Arley in the north to Areley Kings, near Stourport in the south. It is one of the largest remaining ancient woodlands in Britain. Forestry England looks after around half of today's forest. Wyre Piddle is a village and civil parish in the Wychavon district of Worcestershire, England. It is on the River Avon, near where that river is joined by the Piddle Brook - between Evesham and Pershore. WYRE (810 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an adult album alternative format. Licensed to Annapolis, Maryland, United States, it serves Annapolis and portions of the Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC areas. Programming is also heard on FM translator ''W228ER (93.5 FM), licensed to Annapolis. History WYRE has always been a daytimer, required to sign off at sunset, and broadcasts with 250 watts on a tower off Spa Creek in downtown Annapolis.
