Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament
The Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) is a women's national college basketball tournament inaugurated in 2024. It is operated in a similar fashion to the men's college National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and is run by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The similarly-titled Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) is unaffiliated with the NCAA. Format The NCAA announced the creation of the WBIT on July 17, 2023, with the first edition held in 2024. The WBIT supplies an additional 32 funded opportunities for postseason play, providing gender parity to men's college basketball, which has the NCAA-owned NIT. The existing non-NCAA postseason tournaments, the Women's National Invitation Tournament and Women's Basketball Invitational, are "pay-to-play" events where teams must pay a fee to the event sponsor, in addition to travel costs. 2024–25 Minnesota Golden Gophers Women's Basketball Team
The 2024–25 Minnesota Golden Gophers women's basketball team represented the University of Minnesota during the 2024–25 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Golden Gophers, were led by second-year head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, and played their home games at Williams Arena as members of the Big Ten Conference. The Minnesota Golden Gophers ended the season winning the 2025 Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) over the Belmont Bruins. Minnesota was the sole Big Ten team invited to the 2025 WBIT. Previous season The Golden Gophers finished the 2023–24 season 20–16, 5–13 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for eleventh place. As the No. 11 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they defeated Rutgers in the first round before losing in the second round to Michigan. 2025 Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament
The 2025 Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I women's college basketball teams not selected to participate in the 2025 NCAA tournament. The tournament began on March 20 and ended on April 2. The first three rounds were played on the campuses of various schools, and the semifinal and championship games were played at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Minnesota Golden Gophers won the 2025 WBIT over the Belmont Bruins. Minnesota was the sole Big Ten team invited to the 2025 WBIT.Minnesota Selected for 2025 WBIT Field.

2023–24 Washington State Cougars Women's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Washington State Cougars women's basketball team represented Washington State University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cougars were led by sixth-year head coach Kamie Ethridge and they played their home games at Beasley Coliseum as members of the Pac-12 Conference. They were invited to compete in the inaugural 2024 WBIT as a number one seeded team.
