Vortex Comics
Vortex Comics is a Canadian independent comic book publisher that began operation in 1982. Under the supervision of president, publisher, and editor Bill Marks, Vortex was known for such titles as Dean Motter's '' Mister X'', Howard Chaykin's '' Black Kiss'', and Chester Brown's '' Yummy Fur'', the last of which was a pioneer of alternative comics. Vortex also earned a reputation for publishing Canadian comic book creators such as Brown, Ty Templeton, Ken Steacy, and Jeffrey Morgan. History Vortex was founded by 20-year-old high school dropout William P. "Bill" Marks of Toronto in 1982, with its first title being an anthology comic of the same name. Eclipse Comics
Eclipse Comics was an American comic book publisher, one of several independent publishers during the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1978, it published the first graphic novel intended for the newly created comic book store, comic book specialty store market. It was one of the first to offer royalties and Creator ownership in comics, creator ownership of rights. Peter Milligan
Peter Milligan (born 24 June 1961) is a British comic book writer who has written extensively for both British and American comic book industries. In the UK, Milligan has contributed to numerous anthology titles including '' 2000 AD'', ''Revolver'', ''Eagle'' and '' A1'', and helped launch the magazine '' Deadline''. Bill White (comics)
William W. White, Jr. (July 15, 1961 – October 27, 2012) was an American animator, and a comic book writer, penciller, and inker. White studied animation under former Disney animator Milt Neil at The Kubert School. He contributed artwork and stories to many comic book publishers, including DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Archie Comics, Harvey Comics, Spotlight Comics, and Walt Disney Publishing. He illustrated the adventures of many famous characters including Donald Duck, Roger Rabbit, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Richie Rich, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and others. He also had a comic book featuring his own characters, ''Kaptain Keen and Kompany'' (Vortex Comics), which ran for six issues and was optioned for television in 1986. Ted McKeever
Ted McKeever is an American writer and artist, best known for his work in the comic book industry. During his thirty years in comics, McKeever created, wrote and illustrated such titles as ''Transit'', '' Eddy Current'', ''Plastic Forks'', ''Metropol'', '' Industrial Gothic'', ''Miniature Jesus'', and ''The Superannuated Man''. Jaime Hernandez
Jaime (sometimes spelled Xaime) Hernandez (born 1959) is the co-creator of the alternative comic book '' Love and Rockets'' with his brothers Gilbert and Mario. Early life Jaime Hernandez grew up in Oxnard, California.Aldama, p. 119. He is the youngest of his family, with four older brothers and one sister. His family embraced comics: their mother read them frequently and old issues were kept in large quantities in the house, to be read and re-read by all over the years. "We grew up with comics," Hernandez said. "I wanted to draw comics my whole life." They read all types of comics and enjoyed those that gave a fairly realistic depiction of family life as well as the standard superhero adventures. Those Annoying Post Bros
''Those Annoying Post Bros.'' is an independent comic mostly by Matt Howarth about two fun-loving bad boys, Ron Post and Russ Post, from the fictional Bugtown. Equally inspired by H. P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick, and ambient electronic music, the series ran for 63 issues (published by a number of companies) from 1985–1998, making it one of the longest-running indy comics titles. Plot and characters The Post Bros., Ron and Russ (named for brothers Ron and Russ Mael, the duo that make up the American pop and Rock duo, Sparks) are natives of a mysterious transdimensional locality known as Bugtown, where all residents possess the ability to engage in interdimensional travel. Tyrone Templeton is a Canadian comic book artist and writer who has drawn a number of mainstream titles, TV-associated titles, and his own series. Career Templeton first received attention for ''Stig's Inferno'' (Vortex Comics), now a cult favourite, which detailed the journey of its lead character into Hell in a parody of Dante's ''The Divine Comedy''. Templeton recalled that after reading the three books of ''The Divine Comedy'', "I fell in love with them as stories. It took a bit to get past the language translations, but for a year or so, I was reading different versions, off and on, as my reading on subways and buses, getting to and from school." Templeton first transferred this inspiration into comic book form with the intent of making it a strip in his campus newspaper, but ended up shelving the project until Vortex publisher William P.
