Témiscouata () is a regional county municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. It is located southeast of Rivière-du-Loup, bordering New Brunswick, and is centred on Lake Témiscouata. Its seat is Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac. Major industries include forestry, agriculture and maple syrup products. Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (, , MRC) is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in Unorganized area#Quebec, unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the List of former counties of Quebec, historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a Census geographic units of Canada, census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Some local municipalities are outside any regional county municipality (''hors MRC''). Lac-des-Aigles, Quebec
Lac-des-Aigles () is a city in the Témiscouata Regional County Municipality of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. The population is 571. Its economy is mainly based on agriculture and forestry. It is located southeast of Rimouski, near Esprit-Saint. It was created on July 31st 2024 by the merger of the municipalities of Lac-des-Aigles and Saint-Guy. History Settlement of the area began in 1931 with the arrival of land-clearers from Saint-Clément, Saint-Hubert, Bégon and Hocquart, who were short of space. The municipality of Lac-des-Aigles was officially created in 1948. On July 31, 2024, the municipalities of Saint-Guy and Lac-des-Aigles merged to form the town of Lac-des-Aigles. Packington is a parish municipality (Quebec), parish municipality in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Quebec, located in the Témiscouata Regional County Municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. History The first attempts at colonisation in Packington and Robinson townships, which today form the parish of Saint-Benoît de Packington, date back 133 years. By the end of the 19th century, eyes were turning to these ‘Crown’ lands, coveted not only for their natural riches, but above all so that heads of family could settle their children to live there. In 1876, Benoît Valcourt, who lived with his sons on land at Notre-Dame-du-Lac, visited the area and found it so suitable for farming that he decided to come and settle with them around 1878. In their first year, the Valcourts cleared the land considerably and built a six-mile road linking them to Sainte-Rose-du-Dégelé. Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande () is a municipality in Témiscouata Regional County Municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. History Between 1915 and 1918, a group of students surveyed part of Robinson Township. In the early 1920s, a few New Brunswick squatters settled there, quickly followed by families from Sainte-Rose-du-Dégelé (now Dégelis), who occupied a strip of land along Baker Creek, then by people from Montreal, Quebec, Beauce and Bellechasse. In 1923, the mission of Saint-Maur was established, a name that recalls the proximity of the parish of Saint-Benoît-de-Packington, Saint Benedict of Nursia having been the teacher of Saint Maur (around 512-584). The Saint-Maur mission was installed near the Romain-Caron bridge on the right as you descend the Meruimticook River. The church was both school and church.
