Tynset (novel)
''Tynset'' is a lyrical work of prose published in 1965 by the German writer Wolfgang Hildesheimer. Often described as a novel, although not by Hildesheimer himself, it is a monologue of the thoughts of an insomniac over the course of a sleepless night. The central theme of ''Tynset'', one of Hildesheimer's major works, is resignation in face of an absurd world. The first-person narrator from ''Tynset'' is also found in other works by Hildesheimer, and displays similarities with Hildesheimer himself. The work is named after Tynset Municipality in Norway, which the narrator imagines travelling to. The book was a bestseller upon publication, attracted strong attention in the contemporary press, and was translated into several languages, but did not match the popularity of Hildesheimer's ' ("Loveless legends"). Tynset Church
Tynset Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tynset Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the town of Tynset. It is the church for the Tynset parish which is part of the Nord-Østerdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal design in 1795 using plans drawn up by the architect Peder Ellingsen. The church seats about 391 people. History The first church in Tynset was a wooden stave church that was completed in 1211. The new church was consecrated in September 1211 by the Archbishop Tore. This church was located about northeast of the present church site. In 1654, the old church was torn down and work on a new church on the same site began soon after. The new church was a timber-framed long church that was completed in 1657. By 1690, the old cemetery was full and a new cemetery was opened about to the southwest of the existing church. Tynset is a town in Tynset Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The town is also the administrative centre of Tynset Municipality. Tynset Church is located in the town. The town is located along the river Glåma, about halfway between the villages of Tolga and Alvdal. The town includes a central urban area with several surrounding residential areas. The smaller villages of Fåset (to the southwest) and Telneset (to the northeast) lie a short distance away from Tynset. The town has a population (2024) of 2,976 and a population density of .
