Tvedestrand is a town and the administrative centre of Tvedestrand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is located at the northern end of the Tvedestrandfjorden at the intersection of the Norwegian County Road 411 and Norwegian County Road 410. The Tvedestrand Church is located in the central part of the town. The town has a population (2019) of 2,582 and a population density of . In Norway, Tvedestrand is considered a which can be translated as either a "town" or "city" in English. History Tvedestrand had been a small coastal village with a small amount of industry when it became the main port of departure for the materials from the nearby Næs Jernverk (iron works) starting in 1738. In 1836, the port was declared to be a ladested and then on 1 January 1838, it became a town municipality under the new civil municipality law (see formannskapsdistrikt law). Dypvåg (village)
Dypvåg is a village in Tvedestrand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the Skagerrak coast and the Norwegian County Road 411, about east of the town of Tvedestrand and the village of Kråkvåg lies immediately west of Dypvåg. The village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Dypvåg which existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960. The historic Dypvåg Church is located in the village. Name The village is named after the old ''Dybvaag'' farm (Old Norse: ''Djúpvágr'' or ''Djúpivágr''), since the first Dypvåg Church was built there. The first element comes from ''dype'' which means "deep" and the last element is ''våg'' which means "water" or "harbor". The spelling was changed from Dybvaag to Dypvåg around the early 20th century. Dypvåg Kirke
Dypvåg is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960 when it was merged into the present-day municipality of Tvedestrand which is in Agder county. The small municipality included the coastal area about east of the town of Tvedestrand and several islands located just offshore. The administrative centre was the village of Dypvåg where the Dypvåg Church is located. History The parish of ''Dybvaag'' (later spelled "Dypvåg") was established as a civil municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). On 1 January 1881, a part of the municipality of Holt (population: 52) was transferred to Dypvåg. Sagesund
Sagesund is a small village in the municipality of Tvedestrand in Agder county, Norway. It is located on the shore of the Oksefjorden and along the Norwegian County Road 411. Sagesund is located about southeast of the town of Tvedestrand and about west of the villages of Dypvåg and Kråkvåg. There is also bus service from the town of Tvedestrand. Approximately 50 people live there on a permanent basis. It is popular in the summer, when the population at least doubles. It has a sports arena with tennis courts, and a beach volleyball field. The fjord is also an excellent place for waterskiing and wakeboarding, but also for more quiet activities. History Sagesund got its name from a sash saw mill, located in a creek.
