Transient (oscillation)
In electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, a transient response is the response of a system to a change from an equilibrium or a steady state. The transient response is not necessarily tied to abrupt events but to any event that affects the equilibrium of the system. The impulse response and step response are transient responses to a specific input (an impulse and a step, respectively). In electrical engineering specifically, the transient response is the circuit’s temporary response that will die out with time. It is followed by the steady state response, which is the behavior of the circuit a long time after an external excitation is applied. Damping The response can be classified as one of three types of damping that describes the output in relation to the steady-state response. ;Underdamped :An underdamped response is one that oscillates within a decaying envelope. The more underdamped the system, the more oscillations and longer it takes to reach steady ...

Impermanence
Impermanence, also known as the philosophical problem of change, is a philosophical concept addressed in a variety of religions and philosophies. In Eastern philosophy it is notable for its role in the Buddhism, Buddhist three marks of existence. It is also an important element of Hinduism. In Western philosophy it is most famously known through its first appearance in Greek philosophy in the writings of Heraclitus and in his doctrine of Panta rhei (Heraclitus), ''panta rhei'' (everything flows). In Western philosophy the concept is also referred to as ''Becoming (philosophy), ''becoming''. Indian religions The Pali word for impermanence, ''anicca'', is a compound word consisting of ''"a"'' meaning non-, and ''"nicca"'' meaning "constant, continuous, permanent". While 'nicca' is the concept of continuity and permanence, 'anicca' refers to its exact opposite; the absence of permanence and continuity. The term is synonymous with the Sanskrit term ''anitya'' (a + nitya). The conc ...

Homelessness
Homelessness, also known as houselessness or being unhoused or unsheltered, is the condition of lacking stable, safe, and functional housing. It includes living on the streets, moving between temporary accommodation with family or friends, living in boarding houses with no security of tenure, and people who leave their homes because of civil conflict and are refugees within their country. The legal status of homeless people varies from place to place. Homeless enumeration studies conducted by the government of the United States also include people who sleep in a public or private place that is not designed for use as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. Homelessness and poverty are interrelated. There is no standardized method for counting homeless individuals and identifying their needs; consequently, most cities only have estimated figures for their homeless populations. In 2025, approximately 330 million people worldwide experience absolute homelessness, lac ...

Transience (short Story)
"Transience" is a science fiction short story by English writer Arthur C. Clarke, first published in 1949 in the magazine '' Startling Stories''. It was later collected in '' The Other Side of the Sky'' and '' The Nine Billion Names of God''. Summary The story is told through scenes of three children playing on the same beach on Earth, but across vast gulfs of time. Development Clarke wrote that the story was inspired by one of A. E. Housman's poems as well as his childhood memories. Release "Transience" was first published in the July 1949 issue of '' Startling Stories''. The Beechhurst Press later published in the anthology volume '' Looking Forward'' in 1953. The story was also published in collections of some of Clark's work such as 1958's '' The Other Side of the Sky'' and 1961's ''From the Ocean, from the Stars''. In 2001 the University of Western Australia Press published "Transience" in the anthology ''Earth is But a Star: Excursions Through Science Fiction ...

Transient Climate Simulation
A transient climate simulation is a mode of running a global climate model (GCM) in which a period of time (typically 1850–2100) is simulated with continuously-varying concentrations of greenhouse gases so that the climate of the model represents a realistic mode of possible change in the real world. Related models This may be contrasted with an equilibrium climate simulation in which greenhouse gas concentrations are suddenly changed (typically from pre-industrial values to twice pre-industrial values) and the model allowed to come into equilibrium with the new forcing. History Early GCMs used "swamp" or "slab" ocean models for reasons of computational simplicity. Such models cannot simulate the heat take up that occurs in the real ocean and were thus unable to run transient simulations: instead, the response to equilibrium change was investigated. There are problems with this approach, which were well appreciated at the time: the deep ocean has a very long time constant ...

Transient (computer Programming)
In computer programming, transient is a property of any element in the system that is temporary. The term applies to '' transient applications'', i.e. software for the end-user which is displayed with a transient application posture; ''transient data'', which is discarded after it is no longer needed by the computation; and ''transient code'' which are subroutines or software components that are loaded in the system only for a fraction of the total run time. Examples of applications of the term are described below. Java In the Java programming language, transient is a keyword used as a field modifier. When a field is declared transient, it would not be serialized even if the class to which it belongs is serialized. In Java, methods, classes and interfaces cannot be declared as transient, because they are never serialized. In Hibernate and other persistence systems, ''transient'' describes an object that has been instantiated, but is not associated with a Hibernate session, i.&n ...

Transient (civil Engineering)
In civil engineering Civil engineering is a regulation and licensure in engineering, professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads ..., a transient is a short-lived pressure wave. A common example is water hammer. Transients are often misunderstood and not accounted for in the design of water distribution systems, thus contributing to hydraulic element failures, such as pipe breaks and pump/valve failures. Vasoelastic transient flow involves sudden changes in flow properties in VE pipes, leading to potential damage The transient in electrical circuits is different.
