Television In Sweden
Television began in Sweden in 1954 with test transmissions, prior to the opening of the first station, ''Sveriges Radio, Radiotjänst'', two years later. A second channel was launched in 1969. Commercial television arrived in the 1980s through cable television and in 1992, the country's first terrestrial commercial channel was launched. Typically, non-Swedish content maintains the original language soundtrack while subtitled into Swedish. This includes foreign interviews embedded into news and magazine programmes as well as SVT's Finnish news bulletin (''Uutiset''). Conversely, interview responses given in Swedish aired on Finnish or Sami news bulletins are subtitled into the main language of that respective bulletin. Viasat Nature/Crime
Viasat Nature is a television channel owned by international media company, Viasat World LTD. The channel has a focus on animals and their owners, blue-chip, classic wildlife, ER and animal rescue, the natural world, and parks and sanctuaries. Viasat Nature is a 24-hour channel, broadcasting in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Scandinavia and Commonwealth of Independent States. The channel has its origins in TV6, a Swedish women's channel started in 1994. As TV6, it was a television channel started by Kinnevik as a channel aimed at women. V Sport is the common brand of several sports channels targeting the Nordic countries, owned by Viaplay Group. The brand has been introduced in June 2020, replacing the former brands Viasat Sport and Viasport (Norway only). TV10 (Sweden)
TV10 (''TV tio'') is a television channel owned by Viaplay Group broadcasting to Sweden. It specializes in sports and documentaries. The channel started broadcasting on 7 September 2010. Until the start, the channel is available from several operators such as Boxer, Comhem, Telia, Tele2 and Viasat. From the beginning, the channel took over all sporting events from Viasat's other TV channels. In 2011, however, TV3 and TV6 again began broadcasting sports. Among other things, TV10 is supposed to broadcast American football from the NFL, basketball, boxing and UEFA Champions League. TV8 (Swedish TV Channel)
TV8 is a television channel owned by Viaplay Group broadcasting to Sweden. It focuses on current affairs, documentaries and drama. The channel was started by the private equity firm Ratos in 1997 and was sold to MTG in 1999. For some years TV8 timeshared with the Scandinavian History Channel in the evening and Bloomberg Television at night and during the day; TV8's own shows were only broadcast during a few hours in the late evening. During the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 Bloomberg was replaced by the Fox News Channel. Fox News continued eventually but in December Bloomberg returned on some key slots during daytime. TV6 (Sweden)
TV6 is a Swedish television channel broadcasting owned by Viaplay Group. It has origins in the youth channel ZTV that started broadcasting in the early 1990s. In 2004, MTG started repositioning the channel by introducing sports broadcasts and other programming that mainly targeted men. In February 2006, MTG received a license to broadcast a channel called TV6 on terrestrial television. This channel would take over virtually all ZTV programming, except the music videos that ZTV showed during the day. TV6 launched in May 2006 and simultaneously replaced ZTV in most cable networks and absorbing the channel's non music programming. Kunskapskanalen () is a Swedish television channel operated by Sveriges Television (SVT) and Sveriges Utbildningsradio (UR) broadcasting educational and factual programming. The channel broadcasts between 15:00 and 01:00 on all days of the week, having previously aired between 09:00 and 01:00. Kunskapskanalen is broadcast by satellite, cable, and digital terrestrial television to Sweden, by cable to Norway and parts of Finland, and terrestrially on Åland. SVT Barn, formerly Barnkanalen and SVT B, is a Swedish free-to-air television channel from state broadcaster Sveriges Television dedicated to children's television programming. ''Barn'' is Swedish for ''children'', whereas ''Barnkanalen'' meant ''The Children's Channel''. (No relation to the British '' The Children's Channel''.) SVT24, stylized as svt24, formerly known as SVT 24 (then stylized svt 24) or 24 is a Swedish language TV channel broadcast by Sveriges Television (SVT). It started broadcasting in 1999 as a dedicated news channel. In 2003 it extended its scope to include other current events-related programmes and sports at the weekend. Nowadays the channel mainly consists of news, sports, and entertainment programmes with a focus on reruns from SVT1 and SVT2. History SVT24 launched on 15 March 1999 at 13:15. C More First HD is a high-definition television channel owned by C More Entertainment showing movies and television series in the Nordic countries. The channel was launched as ''C More HD'' on 1 September 2005. It was then the first HDTV channel targeting the Nordic countries broadcasting with MPEG-2 compression from the Thor 2 satellite and MPEG-4 with cable on the Canal Digital platform. The content consisted of three movies every evening. On 1 November 2006, it was rebranded as ''Canal+ HD'' and is now broadcasting H.264.
