Säkylä
Säkylä () is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Satakunta region, southeast of the city of Pori. The municipality has a population of () and the municipality covers an area of of which is inland water (). The population density is (). The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Säkylä is known as the home of the Pori Brigade of the Finnish Defence Forces and for the large food industry. The municipality of Köyliö was merged to Säkylä on 1 January 2016. Economy The biggest employers are the Säkylä Garrison of the Pori Brigade, Lännen Tehtaat Plc, Broilertalo Oy, the Municipality of Säkylä, the Intermunicipal Federation of Public Health, and Sucros Säkylä. Satakunta (region)
Satakunta (in both Finnish and Swedish, ; historically ''Satacundia'') is a region ( / ) of Finland, part of the former Western Finland Province. It borders the regions of Southwest Finland, Pirkanmaa, South Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia. The capital city of the region is Pori. The name of the region literally means hundred. The historical province of the same name was a larger area within Finland, covering modern Satakunta as well as much of Pirkanmaa. Heraldry The arms are crowned by a ducal coronet, though in Finnish tradition this resembles a Swedish count's coronet. Pori Brigade
The Pori Brigade (; ), based in Huovinrinne, Säkylä and Niinisalo, Kankaanpää is a Finnish Army unit directly under the command of Army headquarters. It comprises six battalion-level units and also trains soldiers for the Finnish Rapid Deployment Force. History The Pori Brigade's traditions date back to the 17th century. On 16 February 1626, King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden founded the Royal Pori Regiment during the Thirty Years' War. The regiment served in most wars of the Great Power era of Sweden, and was destroyed and reformed several times during the Great Northern War. The regiment fought first as a part of the 1st Brigade and later as a part of the 2nd Brigade during the Finnish War and was effectively destroyed during the winter of 1809 as a result of casualties, disease and hunger. Köyliö
Köyliö (; ) is a former municipality of Finland. It was merged to the municipality of Säkylä on 1 January 2016. It was located in the Satakunta region. The population of Köyliö was (30 June 2015) and covered a land area of . The population density was . The municipality was unilingually Finnish. It is said that the peasant Lalli murdered the English bishop Henry on the ice of Lake Köyliö in 1156 AD, during the first Swedish Crusade into Finland. A statue to Lalli was erected at Köyliö in 1989.
