Superintendent Battle
Superintendent Battle is a fictional character created by Agatha Christie who appeared in five of her novels. Overview Battle is notable for his stolid good sense and careful management of information as a case proceeds. He relies in part on the public notion that police detectives are stupid or unimaginative, when he has a good idea of just what is happening. His moustache is impressive, even to Hercule Poirot. Until ''Towards Zero'' the reader knows nothing of his domestic arrangements (with the exception of a comment in ''The Secret of Chimneys'', when he mentions that he is "very attached of Mrs Battle"), but this novel reveals that he also has five children, the youngest of whom (Sylvia) unwittingly provides a key clue to the mystery. The Secret Of Chimneys
''The Secret of Chimneys'' is a work of detective fiction by British writer Agatha Christie, first published in the UK by The Bodley Head in June 1925 and in the US by Dodd, Mead and Company later in the same year. It introduces the characters of Superintendent Battle and Bundle Brent, Lady Eileen "Bundle" Brent. The UK edition retailed at seven shillings and British sixpence coin, sixpence (7/6) and the US edition at $2.00. At the request of George Lomax, Lord Caterham reluctantly agrees to host a weekend party at his home, Chimneys. Miss Jane Marple is a fictional character in Agatha Christie's crime novels and short stories. Miss Marple lives in the village of St Mary Mead and acts as an amateur consulting detective. Often characterised as an elderly spinster, she is one of Christie's best-known characters and has been portrayed numerous times on screen. Henry Stewart Fleetwood Andrews, CBE (10 November 1911 – 6 March 1989) was a British actor often known for his film portrayals of tough military officers. ''Chimneys'' is a play by crime writer Agatha Christie and is based upon her own 1925 novel ''The Secret of Chimneys''. Background The play was written in 1931 and was due to open at the Embassy Theatre in Swiss Cottage in December of that year. One year previously, '' Black Coffee'', Christie's first performed stage play, had opened at the same theatre. As was the law at the time, the play was vetted by the Lord Chamberlain's Office and passed for performance.
