Sudirman Cup
The Sudirman Cup is an international badminton mixed team competition contested by member countries of the Badminton World Federation, the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every two years since the inaugural tournament in 1989. It used to be held at the same venue for the World Championships in the same year until the International Badminton Federation, now the BWF, decided to split the two tournaments starting from 2003. There are five matches in every Sudirman Cup tie which consists of men and women's singles, men and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The cup is named after Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player. The current champion is China, which won its 14th title at the 2025 tournament in China. There is no prize money in Sudirman Cup; players play for their respective countries and to earn BWF World Ranking points and national prestige. Trophy The Sudirman Cup stands 80 cm high. 2023 Sudirman Cup
The 2023 Sudirman Cup (officially known as the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2023 for sponsorship reasons) was the 18th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was played in Suzhou, China, between 14 and 21 May 2023. China national badminton team, China were the defending champions. They successfully defended their title, lifting the trophy for a record-extending 13th time. Host city selection New Delhi was awarded the hosting of the championship back in November 2018. In July 2021, it was announced that Suzhou, the original host for the 2021 edition, will host this edition instead and India accepted the offer to host 2026 BWF World Championships in exchange. Dick Sudirman
Dick Sudirman (29 April 1922 – 10 June 1986) was an Indonesian badminton player. He was also the founder of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) as well as its chairman for 22 years (1952–1963 and 1967–1981). He was also the vice president of IBF in 1975. The 1991 Sudirman Cup was the second tournament of the World Mixed Team Badminton Championships. It was held from April 30 to May 4, 1991, in Copenhagen, Denmark. 2005 Sudirman Cup
The 2005 Sudirman Cup was the 9th tournament of the World Mixed Team Badminton Championships of Sudirman Cup. It was held from May 10 to May 15, 2005, in Beijing, China. Host city selection Beijing and Glasgow submitted bids for the competition. Beijing was confirmed as the host during 2003 IBF council meeting in Eindhoven. Teams 41 teams around the world took part in this tournament. Geographically, they were 22 from Europe, 13 teams from Asia, 3 from Americas, two from Oceania and one from Africa. This edition also saw the expansion of Group 1 to 8 teams. The 2003 Sudirman Cup was the 8th tournament of the World Mixed Team Badminton Championships of Sudirman Cup. It was held from March 18 to March 23, 2003, in Eindhoven, Netherlands. South Korea won in this eighth edition of the championship against China in the final 3–1. Host city selection International Badminton Federation decided to split the IBF World Championships and the Sudirman Cup as separate tournaments starting from 2003.
