Suborbital Human Spaceflights
A sub-orbital spaceflight is a spaceflight in which the spacecraft reaches outer space, but its trajectory intersects the surface of the gravitating body from which it was launched. Hence, it will not complete one orbital revolution, will not become an artificial satellite nor will it reach escape velocity. For example, the path of an object launched from Earth that reaches the Kármán line (about – above sea level), and then falls back to Earth, is considered a sub-orbital spaceflight. Some sub-orbital flights have been undertaken to test spacecraft and launch vehicles later intended for orbital spaceflight. Other vehicles are specifically designed only for sub-orbital flight; examples include crewed vehicles, such as the X-15 and SpaceShipTwo, and uncrewed ones, such as ICBMs and sounding rockets. Flights which attain sufficient velocity to go into low Earth orbit, and then de-orbit before completing their first full orbit, are not considered sub-orbital. Examples o ...

Blue Origin NS-18
Blue Origin NS-18 was a sub-orbital spaceflight mission operated by Blue Origin that launched on 13 October 2021. The mission was the eighteenth flight of the company's New Shepard integrated launch vehicle and spacecraft. It was the second New Shepard launch to carry passengers. The flight, carrying four people including actor William Shatner, launched from Blue Origin's sub-orbital launch site in West Texas aboard the fourth flight of New Shepard booster NS4 and the spacecraft RSS ''First Step'', both having previously flown on NS-14, NS-15, and NS-16 earlier in the year. At 90, Shatner became the oldest person to fly into space, surpassing the record of 82 which had been held by Wally Funk for three months since her flight on Blue Origin NS-16. Per Blue Origin, Shatner was a guest of the company on the flight and did not have to pay for the trip. When Ed Dwight flew as a space tourist on the Blue Origin suborbital flight on 19 May 2024 at age , he became the oldest perso ...

North American X-15
The North American X-15 is a Hypersonic speed, hypersonic rocket-powered aircraft which was operated by the United States Air Force and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as part of the List of X-planes, X-plane series of experimental aircraft. The X-15 set speed and altitude records in the 1960s, crossing the Kármán line, edge of outer space and returning with valuable data used in aircraft and spacecraft design. The X-15's highest speed, , X-15 Flight 188, was achieved on 3October 1967, when William J. Knight flew at Mach number, Mach6.7 at an altitude of , or 19.34miles. This set the Flight airspeed record, official world record for the highest speed ever recorded by a crewed, powered aircraft, which remains unbroken. During the X-15 program, 12pilots flew a combined 199flights. Of these, 8pilots flew a combined 13flights which met the Air Force human spaceflight, spaceflight criterion by exceeding the altitude of , thus qualifying these pilots as bei ...

X-15 Flight 62
Flight 62 of the North American X-15 was a sub-orbital spaceflight conducted by NASA and the US Air Force on 17 July 1962. The X-15 was piloted by astronaut Robert Michael White to an altitude of 95.9 km (59.6 mi) surpassing the U.S. definition of space. Thus it became the first spaceflight of a spaceplane and a reusable spacecraft. The X-15 was also NASA's first space vehicle (the Mercury capsule flew into space first, but the X-15 was airborne before Big Joe 1). The Flight landed at Edwards Air Force Base. With this White was the first test pilot qualifying for his astronaut wings United States astronaut badges are the various badges of the United States which are awarded to military and civilian personnel of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the various child departments of the Department of Defense, or .... Blue Origin NS-32
Blue Origin NS-32 was a sub-orbital spaceflight operated by Blue Origin as part of its New Shepard space tourism program. The flight took place on May 31, 2025, launching from Launch Site One in West Texas at 8:39 am CDT (13:39:11 UTC). The mission lasted 10 minutes and 7 seconds, carrying six passengers to an apogee of about , crossing the Kármán line, the FAI-recognized boundary of space. The crew included K-12 STEM teacher Aymette Medina Jorge, radiologist Dr. Gretchen Green, former Panamanian ambassador Jaime Alemán, businessman Jesse Williams, aerospace executive Mark Rocket, and entrepreneur Paul Jeris. This mission marked the 12th human flight and the 32nd overall flight for the New Shepard program. Crew Mission The NS-32 mission was part of Blue Origin's New Shepard space tourism program, which uses a remotely piloted rocket to propel a crew capsule into sub-orbital space. The flight launched from Launch Site One southeast of El Paso, Texas El Paso (; ...

Blue Origin NS-31
Blue Origin NS-31 was a sub-orbital spaceflight operated by Blue Origin as part of ''New Shepard'', the company's space tourism program. The flight took place on April 14, 2025, and lasted 10 minutes and 21 seconds. The flight carried all female passengers and was organized by journalist Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos. She was joined by Aisha Bowe, Kerianne Flynn, Gayle King, Amanda Nguyen and Katy Perry. NS-31 received widespread media attention for its symbolic significance of being the first all-female spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space in 1963, making a solo flight on Vostok 6. Overall, the reception to the flight was predominantly negative, with criticism of its messaging and timing. Mission The six-person mission was the eleventh launch of the Blue Origin New Shepard space tourism program, which uses remotely piloted launch rockets to take a capsule with passengers into sub-orbital s ...

Blue Origin NS-21
Blue Origin NS-21 was a sub-orbital spaceflight mission, operated by Blue Origin, which launched on 4 June 2022 using the New Shepard rocket. It was Blue Origin's fifth flight to carry passengers, and twenty-first overall to reach space. The mission was originally scheduled to launch on 20 May 2022. However, the flight was delayed due to a back-up system not meeting the "expectations for performance," and the new 4 June launch date was announced on 31 May 2022. Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke was a guest of Blue Origin attending the launch. Passengers The passengers of NS-21 were nicknamed the "Crew of Natural Selection". They included Evan Dick, who previously flew on Blue Origin NS-19, making him the first person to fly on New Shepard twice. Also on board were Katya Echazarreta, who became the first Mexican-born woman and youngest American woman to fly to space, and Victor Vescovo, a notable undersea explorer. The flight made Vescovo the first person to complete the E ...
