Strade Bianche
The Strade Bianche (; ) is a road bicycle race in Tuscany, Central Italy, starting and finishing in Siena. First held in 2007, it is raced annually on the first or second Saturday of March. The name stems from the historic white gravel roads in the Crete Senesi, which are a defining feature of the race. Around one-third of the total race distance is raced on dirt roads, covering between around and of ''strade bianche'', spread over multiple sectors. Despite its short history, the Strade Bianche has quickly gained prestige, and renewed interest in gravel racing, road racing on gravel and dirt roads as a specific skill and discipline. The event is part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's highest level of professional road races. It is organized by RCS Sport – ''La Gazzetta dello Sport'', and is held the weekend before Tirreno–Adriatico as an early spring precursor to the cobbled classics in April. Straide (), or Strade, is a village in County Mayo, Ireland. It is located on the N58 national secondary road between Foxford and Castlebar. The name Strade is an anglicisation of the Irish words ''an tsráid'', meaning ''the street''. Straide Abbey has a number of carved reliefs on its ruined walls. George Moore (1727–1799), who founded the Moore Hall estate at Lough Carra, came from Ashbrook House near Strade. Paris–Roubaix
Paris–Roubaix is a one-day professional bicycle road race in northern France, starting north of Paris and finishing in Roubaix, at the border with Belgium. It is one of cycling's oldest races, and is one of the 'Cycling monument, Monuments' or classics of the European calendar, and contributes points towards the UCI World Ranking. From its beginning in 1896 until 1967, the race started in Paris and ended in Roubaix; in 1966 the start moved to Chantilly, Oise, Chantilly; and since 1977 it has started in Compiègne, about north-east of the centre of Paris. Since 1943, the finish has for the most part taken place in the Roubaix Velodrome. The race is currently organised by the media group Amaury Sport Organisation, and takes place in early April, usually on the second Sunday. Gaiole In Chianti
Gaiole in Chianti is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Siena in the Italy, Italian region Tuscany, located about southeast of Florence and about northeast of Siena. ''Forbes'' named it number one in its list of "Europe's Most Idyllic Places To Live." Each year in March, a professional bicycle race is held, known as ''Monte Paschi Eroica, Strade Bianche'' in reference to the white gravel roads of the Siena region. 2007 Monte Paschi Eroica
The 2007 Monte Paschi Eroica was the first professional edition of the Monte Paschi Eroica road bicycle race, bike race, later called ''Strade Bianche - Eroica Pro, Strade Bianche''. It was raced on Tuesday 9 October 2007 in the province of Siena in Tuscany, Italy. The race was won by Russian rider Alexandr Kolobnev, who completed a solo, narrowly staying ahead of his teammate Marcus Ljungqvist at the finish. It held a 1.1 Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI rating on the 2007 UCI Europe Tour, 2007 continental calendar. The professional race was spun off the Cyclosportive, granfondo L'Eroica, a recreational bike race for vintage bikes, on the white gravel roads around Siena, an event that continues to this day.
