Charles Albert Stopford III (born May 1962) is an American imposter who posed as the Earl of Buckingham and lived under the assumed name of Christopher Buckingham for over twenty years. The press dubbed him ‘the real Jackal’ due to his use of a method described in the novel ''The Day of the Jackal'' to assume the identity of a deceased infant. Early life Charles Stopford, the eldest of nine children, was born in Orlando, Florida, to Charles and Barbara Stopford. He is of English ancestry. Family members described him as being fascinated with British culture and adept at mimicking an English accent. After graduating high school in 1980, Stopford enlisted in the US Navy. Upon being discharged, he found employment at Walt Disney World in the United Kingdom Pavilion at Epcot, where he would speak with an English accent while entertaining visitors. John Sebastian Bach Stopford, Baron Stopford of Fallowfield KBE FRCS FRCP FRS (25 June 1888 – 6 March 1961) was a British peer, a physician and anatomist, and a vice-chancellor of the University of Manchester. Admiral The Hon. Sir Montagu Stopford KCB (11 November 1798 – 10 November 1864) was an officer in the Royal Navy. Naval career The fifth and youngest son of James Stopford, 3rd Earl of Courtown, and his wife, the former Lady Mary Scott, he entered the Navy on 8 November 1810 and was commissioned as lieutenant on 17 July 1819 and as commander on 29 January 1822. Alice Stopford Green (30 May 1847 – 28 May 1929) was an Irish historian, nationalist, and member of the first Seanad Éireann. Early life She was born Alice Sophia Amelia Stopford in Kells, County Meath. Her father Edward Adderley Stopford was Rector of Kells and Archdeacon of Meath. Her paternal grandfather was Edward Stopford, the Church of Ireland Bishop of Meath, and she was a cousin of Stopford Brooke and Mother Mary Clare. From 1874 to 1877, Alice Stopford lived in London where she met the historian John Richard Green. They were married in Chester on 14 June 1877.
