Stachyuraceae
''Stachyurus'' is the only genus in the flowering plant family (biology), family Stachyuraceae, native plant, native to the Himalayas and eastern Asia. They are deciduous shrubs or small trees with pendent racemes of 4-petalled flowers which appear on the bare branches before the leaves. The plants have leaves with Leaf#Margins (edge), serrate margins. Pendunculagin, casuarictin, strictinin, casuarinin and casuariin are ellagitannins found in species in this genus. ''Stachyurus praecox'' and the slightly later-flowering Stachyurus chinensis, ''S. chinensis'', from Japan and China, respectively, are both cultivated as ornamental plants elsewhere as they flower early in temperate climates. Stachyurus Praecox
''Stachyurus praecox'', early stachyurus, is a species of flowering plant in the family Stachyuraceae, native to Japan. It is a spreading deciduous shrub growing to tall by wide. Pendent, bell-shaped, primrose yellow flowers are borne on naked arching branches in winter and spring. They are followed by ovate leaves, which colour to pink or red before falling in autumn. The Latin specific epithet ''praecox'' means "early", referring to the exceptionally early flowering season. It was first described in 1836 by Philipp Franz von Siebold and Joseph Gerhard Zuccarini. This plant is cultivated as an ornamental subject in temperate parks and gardens, though rarely seen. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit The Award of Garden Merit (AGM) is a long-established award for plants by the British Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). It is based on assessment of the plants' performance under UK growing conditions. It includes the full range of cultivated ...

Stachyurus Chinensis
''Stachyurus chinensis'' (中国旌节花), Chinese stachyurus, is a species of flowering plant in the family Stachyuraceae, native to China and Taiwan. It is a spreading deciduous shrub growing to tall by wide. Stiff, pendent racemes of bell-shaped, greenish-yellow flowers are borne on glossy, dark brown branches in winter and spring. It flowers two weeks later than the related ''S. praecox''. The flowers are followed by simple ovate leaves which colour to pink and red before falling in autumn. The Latin specific epithet ''chinensis'' means "from China". This is the most widely distributed species of the genus, and is found throughout southern and eastern China as well as the island of Taiwan. It is also highly variable, with some populations on the mainland more closely resembling ''S. himalaicus''. The two species may be better regarded as conspecific. This plant is cultivated as an ornamental subject in temperate parks and gardens. Although hardy, it prefers a sheltered ...

Rosid Genera
The rosids are members of a large clade (monophyletic group) of flowering plants, containing about 70,000 species, more than a quarter of all angiosperms. The clade is divided into 16 to 20 orders, depending upon circumscription and classification. These orders, in turn, together comprise about 140 families. Fossil rosids are known from the Cretaceous period. Molecular clock estimates indicate that the rosids may have originated in the Aptian or Albian stages of the Cretaceous, between 125 and 99.6 million years ago. Today's broadleaved forests are dominated by rosid species, which in turn help with diversification in many other living lineages. Additionally, rosid herbs and shrubs are a significant part of arctic/alpine and temperate floras. The clade also includes some aquatic, desert and parasitic plants. Name The name is based upon the name " Rosidae", which had usually been understood to be a subclass. In 1967, Armen Takhtajan showed that the correct basis for the name "R ...
