The Shire of Moorabool is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 34,158. It includes the towns of Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Balliang, Mount Wallace, Myrniong, Blackwood, Greendale, Gordon, Korweinguboora and Mount Egerton, Bungaree, Elaine and Wallace. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the Shire of Bacchus Marsh, Shire of Ballan and parts of the Shire of Bungaree and City of Werribee. Balliang is a locality in Victoria, Australia. It is divided between the Shire of Moorabool and City of Greater Geelong local government areas. It lies north of Geelong and from the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Balliang had a population of 254. History The locality was named for a house in Geelong owned by Foster Fyans, which was in turn named for Balliang (or Ballyang), who was an Aboriginal leader employed by Fyans. Balliang Post Office opened on 23 June 1910 and closed in 1968. Demographics As of the 2016 Australian census, 290 people resided in Balliang. The median age of persons in Balliang was 42 years. The Shire of Bungaree was a local government area northeast of the regional city of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of and existed from 1863 until 1994. History Bungaree was first incorporated as a road district on 16 January 1863 and became a shire on 27 January 1871. The shire was originally divided into three ridings in August 1879, but after it lost a small section to the City of Ballaarat on 31 March 1930, it was redivided into two ridings.
