Sauda ''()'' is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Sauda, where most of the population lives. Other villages in the municipality include Saudasjøen and Amdal. Despite being in the northern part of the region of Ryfylke, Sauda participates in the Haugalandet Council and is under the jurisdiction of the Haugaland og Sunnhordland District Court. The municipality is the 197th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Sauda is the 190th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 4,543. The municipality's population density is and its population has decreased by 4.3% over the previous 10-year period. Sauda (town)
Sauda is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town in Sauda municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The town, which is also the administrative centre of the municipality, is located in a river valley at the northern end of the Saudafjorden. The small suburb of Saudasjøen lies about west of the town centre. A large part of the industrial harbour area of Sauda is built on reclaimed land that was once underwater in the fjord. Saudasjøen is a village in Sauda municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located along the northern coast of the Saudafjorden about southwest of the town of Sauda. For statistical purposes it is considered a part of the urban area of the town of Sauda. The village is mostly a bedroom community for the nearby town of Sauda. There are some small industries in Saudasjøen as well as the Saudasjøen Chapel. County Road 520 runs through the village along the shore of the fjord. Sauda Church
Sauda Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sauda Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the town of Sauda. It is the main church for the Sauda parish which is part of the Ryfylke prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1866 using designs by the famous architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 350 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1467, but the church was not new that year. The first church was a stave church that was located in the village of Saudasjøen. In 1624, a new tower was added to the old church building. In the mid-1700s, the old church was in need of a renovation, so the old choir was torn down and rebuilt. In 1806, the church was again renovated. Saudafjorden
Saudafjord or Saudafjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The fjord stretches from the town of Sauda in the municipality of Sauda in the north to the village of Sand in the municipality of Suldal where the Saudafjorden and Hylsfjorden join together to form the Sandsfjorden. The Saudafjorden is the northernmost branch of the main Boknafjord which dominates Rogaland county. The long Saudafjorden is an open, wide fjord with a depth approaching . The fjord was carved by the action of glaciers in the ice ages and was flooded by the sea when the later glaciers retreated. The fjord has no marked threshold as the glacial ice flow joined that from the Hylsfjord and flowed into the Sandsfjord. Ryfylke
Ryfylke is a Districts of Norway, traditional district in the northeastern part of Rogaland county, Norway. The district, encompassing about 60% of the county's area is located northeast of Stavanger and east of Haugesund. It includes the mainland, which is northeast and east of the Boknafjorden and east of the Høgsfjorden. It also consists of the islands on the south side of the Boknafjorden. Haugaland
Haugaland or Haugalandet is a traditional district situated on the western coast of Norway. Haugaland is one of the 15 traditional districts located within the Vestlandet region. Geographically, Haugaland is a peninsula between Bømlafjorden in Vestland county and Boknafjorden in the northern part of Rogaland county, Nord-Rogaland.
