Saky
Saky ( Ukrainian and ; ) is a city in Crimea. Although it is the administrative centre of the Saky Raion, it does not belong to the raion (district), serving instead as the center and the only locality of Saky Municipality. Population: History The exact origin of the present town of Saky is unknown. At the time of the Crimean Khanate, Saky was a small village. In 1805, Saky had less than 400 people, more than 95 percent of whom were Crimean Tatars. In 1827, the first bathhouse was built and ten years later an office of the military hospital of Simferopol. During the Crimean War, the allied forces landed near Saky between Saky Lake and Kyzyl-Yar Lake and besieged Sevastopol. At the beginning of February 1855, the troops of General Stepan Aleksandrovich Khroulev focused on Saky before attacking the enemy in the fortifications of Evpatoria. Saky Municipality
The Saky City Municipality (, translit. ''Saks'ka mis'krada'') is one of the 25 regions of the Crimean Peninsula, internationally recognized as part of Ukraine, but currently occupied by Russia. The region is located on the western coast of Crimea on the Black Sea's shore. Its administrative centre is the city of Saky. In 2014, the population stood at 25,146. Unlike in the other regions and municipalities of Crimea which contain a number of other settlements under its jurisdiction, the Saky municipality only consists of its administrative center Saky. Saky Raion (, , ) is one of the 25 regions of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a territory recognized by a majority of countries as part of Ukraine and incorporated by Russia as the Republic of Crimea. Its administrative center is the city of Saky, which is not a part of the district. Population: The district includes the urban-type settlement of Novofedorivka. 2020 Ukrainian administrative reform In July 2020, Ukraine conducted an administrative reform throughout its de jure territory. This included Crimea, which has been occupied by Russia since 2014. Crimea was reorganized from 14 raions and 11 municipalities into 10 raions, with municipalities abolished altogether. Saky Raion was abolished, with its territories to become a part of Yevpatoria Raion, but this has not yet been implemented due to the ongoing Russian occupation. Explosions In Novofedorivka
2022 Saky air base attack was an event during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when several large explosions occurred at the Saky airbase in the town of Novofedorivka, Crimea, on 9 August 2022. The military base was seized by Russian forces during the 2014 annexation of Crimea, part of the Russo-Ukrainian War. The explosions destroyed a number of Russian warplanes and caused substantial other damage. Ukrainian authorities tacitly took responsibility at first, until four weeks after the event, when Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine's military commander, explicitly said that it had been a Ukrainian missile strike. The Yevpatoria Raion, also transliterated as Yevpatoriiskyi Raion() is a prospective raion (district) of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in Ukraine. It was created on September 7, 2023, from the territories of Saky Raion and Chornomorske Raion, along with the Yevpatoria and Saky municipalities. The administrative center is the city of Yevpatoria. Due to the ongoing Russian occupation of Crimea, the Ukrainian government has only ''de jure'' authority over the peninsula, and the raion has not yet been implemented in practice.
