SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The SWAC men's basketball tournament (popularly known as the SWAC tournament) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1978. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. On seven occasions, the SWAC champion has won an NCAA Division I tournament game (two being in the first round and five in preliminary rounds). The 1977–78 season was the SWAC's first as an NCAA Division I basketball conference, but it was not until 1980 that the champion went to the Division I tournament; most notably, the 1979 champion was Alcorn State, who went 27–0 but only received an NIT bid (where they lost in the second round) as they had "not yet completed the three years of adherence to a 2.00 average entrance requirem ...

Robert Moreland (basketball)
Robert Earl Moreland Sr. (November 10, 1938 – July 29, 2024) was an American college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of the Texas Southern Tigers from 1975 to 2001, and as interim head coach during the 2007–08 season. Moreland has the most wins as a coach in Tigers history with 406. Moreland led the Tigers to a NAIA championship in 1977 and was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Coach of the Year five times. Early life Moreland was born in Utica, Mississippi, as the youngest of eleven children to Hizzie Moreland and Hattie Morris-Moreland. He attended Hinds County Agricultural High School and Utica Junior College. He received an athletic scholarship to Tougaloo College where he participated in basketball, football and track and field. The 1980–81 Southern Jaguars basketball team represented Southern University during the 1980–81 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Alcorn State Braves basketball team is the men's basketball team that represents Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi, United States.
