SNDT Women's University Alumni
SNDT Women's University, also called by its full name Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University, is a women's university in the city of Mumbai, India. The university headquarters are at Churchgate in South Mumbai, while the main campus is at Churchgate there are two other campuses one in Santacruz–Juhu area of Mumbai and another at Pune. The university has affiliated colleges in Maharashtra, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Surat and Goa, as well. Dhondo Keshav Karve played a key role in its establishment. He was inspired by novel on Japan Women's University in 1915. History In 1920 the university was named Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University. Mr.Vitthaldas Thakarsey pledged ₹1500000 at that time in the memories of his beloved mother Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thakarsey, and so the name SNDT was given to the university. Dhondo Keshav Karve
Dhondo Keshav Karve (18 April 1858 – 9 November 1962) (), popularly known as Maharshi Karve, was a social reformer in India in the field of women's welfare. He advocated widow remarriage, and he himself remarried a widow as a widower. Karve was a pioneer in promoting widows' education. He founded the first women's university in India, the SNDT Women's University in 1916. The Government of India awarded him with the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1958, the year of his 100th birthday. He organized a conference against the practice of devdasi. He started 'Anath balikashram' an orphanage for girls. His intention was to give education to all women and make them stand on their own feet. Shruti Sadolikar
Shruti Sadolikar Katkar (born 9 November 1951) is an Indian classical singer of the khyal style in the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. She is a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani vocal music for 2011. Early life and career Sadolikar was born 1951 into a family from Kolhapur which was known for its musical tradition. She received training in Indian classical music from childhood. Her initial training was given by her father, Wamanrao Sadolikar, who was taught by the founder of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, Alladiya Khan, and his son Bhurji Khan. Following her studies with her father, Sadolikar learnt music for twelve years from Gulubhai Jasdanwala, who was known for his large collection of raga compositions, including compositions in rare ragas. Heera Pathak
Heera Ramnarayan Pathak, born Heera Kalyanray Mehta, was a Gujarati poet and literary critic. She married Ramnarayan V. Pathak, a Gujarati writer. Life She was born on 12 April 1916 in Mumbai. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1936 from S.N.D.T University with Gujarati as her main subject. She received a Ph.D. in 1938 for her research work ''Aapnu Vivechan Sahitya'' (History of Our Literary Criticism), which was published as a book in 1939. She was a professor of Gujarati at S.N.D.T University from 1938 to 1972. She was the president of Gujarati Adhyapak Sangh for 1970–1971 and also was vice-president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad for a few years. Rekha Kamat (born Kumud Sukhtankar; 1932 – 11 January 2022) popularly known as Rekha was an Indian film and television actress. Early life and education Kamat was born in 1932 in Mahim, Mumbai. Her father was a clerk in the Indian Navy. Her family consisted of seven siblings (five sisters and two brothers). Chitra Navathe (born as Kusum Sukhtankar) was her younger sister. Chitra Mudgal (born 10 December 1943) is an Indian Writer and one of the leading literary figures of modern Hindi literature. She is the first Indian woman to receive the coveted Vyas Samman for her novel ''Avaan''. Jaya Mehta
Jaya Vallabhdas Mehta (born 16 August 1932) is a Gujarati poet, critic and translator from Gujarat, India. She was educated and later worked at SNDT Women's University. Life Jaya Mehta was born on 16 August 1932 at Koliyak village near Bhavnagar (now in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, India) to Lalitaben and Vallabhdas. She completed P. T. Masaba Gupta (born 2 November 1989) is an Indian fashion designer and actress with her own label called House of Masaba. Early life Masaba Gupta was born in 1988 and is the daughter of Indian actress Neena Gupta and West Indies' former cricketer Viv Richards and grew up in Mumbai.
