Roberto Clemente
Roberto Enrique Clemente Walker (; August 18, 1934 – December 31, 1972) was a Puerto Rican professional baseball player who played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates, primarily as a right fielder. On December 31st, 1972, Clemente was killed when his Douglas DC-7 airplane, which he had chartered for a flight to take and deliver emergency relief goods for the survivors of a 1972 Nicaragua earthquake, massive earthquake in Nicaragua, crashed and plunged into the water off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. He was 38 years old. After his sudden death, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, National Baseball Hall of Fame changed its rules so that a player who had been dead for at least six months would be eligible for entry. The Cangrejeros de Santurce (; "Santurce Crabbers") are a professional baseball team based in Santurce, the largest barrio of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The franchise joined the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente when it was the semi-professional Liga de Béisbol Semi-Profesional de Puerto Rico. Lefty Gomez
Vernon Louis "Lefty" Gomez (November 26, 1908 – February 17, 1989) was an American professional baseball player. A left-handed pitcher, Gomez played in Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1930 and 1943 for the New York Yankees and the Washington Senators (1901–60), Washington Senators. Gomez was a five-time World Series champion with the Yankees. He was also known for his colorful personality and humor. Gomez grew up in California and played for the San Francisco Seals (baseball), San Francisco Seals after high school. He made his MLB debut with the Yankees in April 1930.
