Rhymesayers Entertainment (sometimes abbreviated RSE) is an American independent hip-hop record label based in Minneapolis. History Rhymesayers Entertainment was co-founded in 1995 by Sean Daley (Slug), Anthony Davis (Ant), Musab Saad (Sab the Artist) and Brent Sayers (Siddiq). Former members of the Headshots crew. Beginning in 2008, Rhymesayers Entertainment sponsors the annual Soundset Music Festival, a popular attraction that takes place over Memorial Day weekend in Minneapolis. The music festival was postponed in 2020. Rhymesayers released Prof and Dem Atlas from their label in 2020. In 2020, Rhymesayers was among the many labels distributed by Alternative Distribution Alliance that left the company after ADA moved all of its business to the Indiana-based Direct Shot Distributing. Slug (rapper)
Sean Michael Daley (born September 7, 1972), better known by his stage name Slug, is an American rapping, rapper from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Slug is best known as one-half of the hip-hop group Atmosphere (music group), Atmosphere, which he founded with Derek Turner (Spawn). Turner has since left and Anthony Davis (Ant (producer), Ant) produces Atmosphere with Slug. In 1995, Slug, in collaboration with Anthony Davis, Musab Saad, and Brent Sayers founded the Minneapolis-based independent hip hop record label Rhymesayers Entertainment. Felt is an American hip hop duo, consisting of Slug of Atmosphere and Murs of Living Legends. History Slug and Murs first met at First Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Subsequently, the two started making music together and formed Felt. Felt released the debut studio album, '' Felt: A Tribute to Christina Ricci'', in 2002. It was produced by Murs' fellow Living Legends member The Grouch. In 2005, the duo released the second studio album, '' Felt 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet''. It was produced by Ant of Atmosphere. Micheal David Larsen (November 9, 1981 – October 16, 2010), better known by his stage name Eyedea, was an American rapper. He was a battle rap, freestyle battle champion and songwriter from Saint Paul, Minnesota. Larsen had appeared as a solo artist under the pseudonym Oliver Hart, and as the MC half of the duo Eyedea & Abilities (along with longtime friend and collaborator DJ Abilities). He was first signed to Slug (rapper), Slug's independent hip-hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment before founding his own record label, Crushkill Recordings. Face Candy was an American improvisational jazz rap group by led rapper Eyedea in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The group released one album, ''This Is Where We Were'', in 2006. The initial lineup on the album consisted of Eyedea, Kristoff Krane, J.T. Bates, and Casey O'Brien until Eyedea's sudden death in 2010. The group released a second album in 2011, ''Waste Age Teenland''. Eyedea & Abilities (often abbreviated as E&A) was an American hip hop duo from Saint Paul, Minnesota, consisting of rapper Eyedea and DJ Abilities. The duo was founded in 1999 and became a prominent figure of the underground hip hop scene, becoming known for Eyedea's philosophical and socially conscious lyrics, along with DJ Abilities' dynamic experimental fusion of stylistic elements from both rap and rock, as well as electronic music. The group was active until Eyedea's death in October 2010. Rakaa Taylor (born June 18, 1972) better known by his stage names Rakaa, Rakaa Iriscience, and Iriscience, is a rapper from Los Angeles, California. He is a member of Dilated Peoples alongside Evidence and DJ Babu. Christopher E. Oroc, stage name Melvin Babu (born September 17, 1974), better known as DJ Babu or DJ Babu the Dilated Junkie, is a Filipino-American DJ and record producer.
