Rhodos
In Greek mythology, Rhodos/Rhodus () or Rhode (), was the goddess and personification of the island of Rhodes and a wife of the Solar deity, sun god Helios. Family Various parents were given for Rhodos. Pindar makes her a daughter of Aphrodite with no father mentioned, although scholia on Pindar add Poseidon as the father; for Herodorus of Heraclea she was the daughter of Aphrodite and Poseidon, while according to Diodorus Siculus she was the daughter of Poseidon and Halia of Rhodes, Halia, one of the Telchines, the original rulers of Rhodes. According to Bibliotheca (Pseudo-Apollodorus), Apollodorus (referring to her as "Rhode") she was a daughter of Poseidon and Amphitrite, and full sister to Triton (mythology), Triton. However, for Epimenides, her father was Oceanus, while according to a scholion on ''Odyssey'' 17.208 (calling her "Rhode"), her father was the river-god Asopus, thus making her a Naiad. A daughter is a female offspring; a girl or a woman in relation to her parents. Daughterhood is the state, condition or quality of being someone's daughter. The male counterpart is a son. Analogously the name is used in several areas to show relations between groups or elements. From biological perspective, a daughter is a first degree relative. The word daughter also has several other connotations attached to it, one of these being used in reference to a female descendant or consanguinity. It can also be used as a term of endearment coming from an elder. In patriarchal societies, daughters often have different or lesser familial rights than sons. A family may prefer to have sons rather than daughters and subject daughters to female infanticide. In some societies, it is the custom for a daughter to be 'sold' to her husband, who must pay a bride price. Her name and historical existence are far from certain. Novel Onomastic issues The name of this character is difficult to restore because it is located in a lacuna in the surviving manuscripts of the text. When the novel was discovered by Adolf Hilgenfeld in the 19th century, he proposed the reading Ῥόδη (Rhódē) in the lacuna and thus attributed this name to the character. Olpe, Germany
Olpe is a town situated in the foothills of the Ebbegebirge in North Rhine-Westphalia, roughly 60 km east of Cologne and 20 km northwest of Siegen. It is part of the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Arnsberg and is the seat of the district of Olpe. Geography Location Olpe lies in the Sauerland on the southern edge of the Ebbegebirge Nature Park. In the town's north lies South Westphalia's biggest reservoir, the Biggesee. Rhode, County Offaly
Rhode () is a village in County Offaly, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is situated on the R400 road (Ireland), R400 at its junction with the R441 road (Ireland), R441 which leads to Edenderry, 12 km to the east. Rhode village is on an "island" of high ground surrounded by an expanse of raised bog which forms part of the Bog of Allen. History The Grand Canal (Ireland), Grand Canal, which was completed in the early 1800s, lies just south of the village, where it is crossed by Rhode Bridge (built c.1797). Several of the village's larger buildings, including Saint Peter's Roman Catholic church (original built 1816), date to the early 19th century. The modern village of Rhode expanded around a peat-burning power plant operated by the Electricity Supply Board which was supplied with mill (grinding), milled peat by Bord na Móna. Roses, Girona
Roses (; , ) is a municipality in the comarques of Catalonia, ''comarca'' of the Alt Empordà, located on the Costa Brava, Catalonia, Spain. Roses is the site of the former bishopric of Rotdon, now a Latin Catholic titular see. It is situated on the coast at the northern end of the Gulf of Roses, and is an important fishing port and tourist centre. The C-260 road links the town with Figueres. The GR 92 long distance footpath, which roughly follows the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, has a staging point at Roses.
