Rednitz Basin
The Rednitz () is a long river in Franconia, Germany, tributary of the Regnitz (more precisely: its southern, left headstream). Slightly richer in water than the other source river Pegnitz and also richer in tributaries, it is hydrographically regarded as the upper reaches of the Regnitz, although the longest flow path in its system is approx. 3 km shorter than that in the Pegnitz system. The Rednitz is formed by the confluence of the rivers Franconian Rezat and Swabian Rezat, in Georgensgmünd ( district of Roth). The Rednitz flows north through Roth bei Nürnberg, Schwabach and the southwestern quarters of Nuremberg. The Rednitz joins the Pegnitz to form the Regnitz in Fürth. The river first appeared in written sources in the 8th century with the Latin name Radantia. In the 11th century, the name of the river was given as Ratenza. Sources Franz X. Regnitz
The Regnitz () is a river in Franconia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Main and is in length. The river is formed by the confluence of the rivers Rednitz and Pegnitz, which meet in the city of Fürth. From there the Regnitz runs northwards through the cities of Erlangen and Forchheim. It finally meets the Main near the city of Bamberg. Including its source rivers Rednitz and Franconian Rezat, it is long, providing the furthest source (and hence length) of the Main's river system, the largest and longest right bank tributary of the river Rhine. Small portions of the Regnitz near Bamberg are incorporated into a canal connecting the Main with the Danube: the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, which otherwise runs parallel from Bamberg to Fürth. Franconia ( ; ; ) is a geographical region of Germany, characterised by its culture and East Franconian dialect (). Pegnitz (river)
The Pegnitz () is a river in Franconia in the Germany, German States of Germany, state of Bavaria. The Pegnitz has its source in the Pegnitz (town), town of the same name at an altitude of and meets the Rednitz at in Fürth to form the Regnitz river. Shortly after the source, the Pegnitz unites with the long Fichtenohe while keeping the name of the shorter tributary. Some therefore consider the Fichtenohe as the upper course of the river Pegnitz. The Franconian Rezat (, ) is a river in southern Germany. It is the western, left source river of the Rednitz. It rises in the Franconian Heights near Oberdachstetten. Swabian Rezat
The Swabian Rezat (, ) is a 33.3-kilometre-long river in southern Germany (Bavaria). It is the southern, right source river of the Rednitz. It rises in the Franconian Jura hills, near Weißenburg in Bayern. It flows generally north through the towns Weißenburg in Bayern, Ellingen and Pleinfeld. Together with the Franconian Rezat, it forms the Rednitz in Georgensgmünd. In its upper course the Rezat is close to the continental water shed between Rhine and Danube. In the 8th century Charlemagne tried to build a canal between Rezat and Altmühl which were only 3 km away from each other. It's not clear if it was finished and used for a short period or not. Roth (district)
Roth is a Districts of Germany, ''Landkreis'' (district) in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the northeast and clockwise) the districts of Nürnberger Land, Neumarkt (district), Neumarkt, Eichstätt (district), Eichstätt, Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, Ansbach (district), Ansbach and Fürth (district), Fürth, and the cities of Schwabach and Nürnberg. In medieval times the area was ruled by many lords. Ansbach, Brandenburg-Ansbach and Nuremberg owned possessions in the territory, and other parts were the property of clerical states. When these clerical states were dissolved in 1803, the territory fell to Bavaria. The district was established in 1972 through the merger of the former districts of Roth, Schwabach and Hilpoltstein. Roth Bei Nürnberg
Roth (; formerly ''Roth bei Nürnberg'') is a town in Bavaria, Germany, the capital of the Roth District. It is located about 25 km south of Nuremberg. History The town was first mentioned in documents in the year 1060, but settlements at its location date back much further. During the Middle Ages the town was given the right to grant asylum within the city walls. Later this tradition attracted Huguenot refugees who had to flee France because of religious persecution. They brought with them knowledge about the making of wires and founded an industry in Roth which exists until today. It plays host to a yearly Jazz & Blues festival and the Datev Challenge Roth triathlon race. Schwabach
Schwabach () is a German city of about 40,000 inhabitants near Nuremberg in the centre of the region of Franconia in the north of Bavaria. Together with the neighboring cities of Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen, Schwabach forms one of the three metropolitan areas in Bavaria. The city is an autonomous administrative district (''kreisfreie Stadt''). Schwabach is also the name of the river which runs through the city prior to joining the Rednitz. Schwabach is famous for its crafts made of gold, particularly gold foil. In 2004, Schwabach celebrated this tradition with an anniversary festival, marking "500 years gold foil in Schwabach".
