"Ratchet" is a song by English Rock music, rock band Bloc Party. The song was released on 25 June 2013 as the lead single from the band's third EP ''The Nextwave Sessions''. The song was given its first radio play by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. A music video for the song was also uploaded to the band's Vevo channel on YouTube on the same day of the song's release. The song was featured in the soundtrack for the video game ''FIFA 14''. It is the final single released by the band with the original lineup intact, as drummer Matt Tong left the band in 2013 and bassist Gordon Moakes left in 2015. Tong left the band prior to the release of the single but plays on the recording and appears in the video. Music video The official music video for the song, lasting three minutes and sixteen seconds, was uploaded on 25 June 2013 to the band's Vevo channel on YouTube. Ratchet and Clank are the titular protagonists of the ''Ratchet & Clank'' video game series developed by Insomniac Games, starting with the 2002 ''Ratchet & Clank''. Ratchet is a slang term in American hip hop (culture), hip hop culture that, in its original sense, was a derogatory term used to refer to an uncouth woman, and may be a Louisianan dialect form of the word "wretched". In cryptography, the Double Ratchet Algorithm (previously referred to as the Axolotl Ratchet) is a key management algorithm that was developed by Trevor Perrin and Moxie Marlinspike in 2013. It can be used as part of a cryptographic protocol to provide end-to-end encryption for instant messaging. After an initial key exchange it manages the ongoing renewal and maintenance of short-lived session keys. A cliquet option or ratchet option is an exotic option consisting of a series of consecutive forward start options. The first is active immediately. The second becomes active when the first expires, etc. Each option is struck at-the-money when it becomes active.
