Racing Besançon is a French football club based in Besançon. It was founded in 1904. They play at the Stade Léo Lagrange. The club currently competes in the Championnat National 3, the fifth tier of France Football. History Founded in 1904 by soldiers, the Racing Club Franc-Comtois Besançon, an omnisports club joined the USFSA. The football section was created in 1905. After having signed some good performances before the Great War (Eastern Champion 1909, 10, 11 and 12), the club was slowed down by hostilities. Following the 2021–22 season, Racing Besançon was promoted to Championnat National 2 after an eight-year absence. Kit The club's kit is manufactured by Kappa and primarily consists of red. The Championnat National 3, commonly referred to as simply National 3 and formerly known as Championnat de France Amateur 2, is a football league competition. The league serves as the fifth division of the French football league system behind Ligue 1, Ligue 2, Championnat National, and the Championnat National 2. Usually contested by 112 clubs, the Championnat National 3 operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Championnat National 2 and the regional leagues of the Division d'Honneur, the sixth division of French football. Seasons run from August to May, with teams in eight groups playing 26 games each totalling 1,456 games in the season. Most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played during weekday evenings. The 2023–24 Championnat National 2 is the 26th season of the fourth tier in the French football league system in its current format. This season the competition is contested by 56 clubs split geographically across four groups of 14 teams, a change from the previous season, as part of the restructuring of the French football league system. The teams include amateur clubs (although a few are semi-professional) and the reserve teams of professional clubs. The competition starts on 28 August 2023 and concludes on 18 May 2024. The 2021–22 Championnat National 3 was the fifth season of the fifth tier in the French football league system in its current format. The competition is normally contested by 168 clubs split geographically across 12 groups of 14 teams, but this season had 169 clubs due to the administrative relegation of Gazélec Ajaccio. The teams included amateur clubs (although a few were semi-professional) and the reserve teams of professional clubs. Teams On 15 July 2021, the FFF ratified the constitution of the competition, and published the groups. Due to the non-completion of the 2020–21 season, the FFF declared that there would be no regular promotion or relegation from the division, and that any vacancies to be filled would be done on the basis of finishing positions in the 2019–20 season.
