RFL Women's Super League
The Rugby Football League Women's Super League (known as the Betfred Women's Super League due to sponsorship) is the elite women's rugby league club competition in England. Originally competed between four teams in the 2017 season, the league has developed with the 2023 season being contested by 12 teams playing home and away against each other in two groups with subsequent play-offs and Grand Final. In January 2023 it was announced that the league would be reduced to eight teams in the 2024 season. The Women's Amateur Rugby League Association (WARLA) was established in the mid-1980s and a league that initially had six teams expanded to 18 teams across two divisions by 1991. The Rugby Football League Women's Super League South (known as the Betfred Women's Super League South due to sponsorship) was introduced as a top tier women's rugby league club competitions in Great Britain for teams Southern England and South Wales that ran parallel to the RFL Women's Super League. Originally intended to start in 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural season started in mid-June 2021 and ended on 29 August. Leigh Leopards Women
Leigh Leopards Women are a women's rugby League team based in Leigh, Greater Manchester, England. The team originally competed as the ladies' team of Leigh Miners Rangers before an agreement between the club and Leigh Leopards led to the rebranding of the team in late 2022. In 2022 and 2023 the team took part in the Women's Super League before the restructuring of the league which saw them compete in the 2024 Northern Championship. In 2024, they won the National Championship Final and subsequent play-off to earn promotion back to the Super League in the 2025 season. Salford Red Devils Women are the women's rugby league team of the Salford Red Devils in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The team was established in 2021 and competed in the RFL Women's Super League in 2023. they compete in the RFL Women's Championship. Barrow Raiders Ladies
Barrow Raiders Ladies are the women's rugby league team of Barrow Raiders from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. They compete in the Women's Super League, and play their home games at Craven Park. Before taking the Barrow Raiders name the team were called Barrow Island Ladies. History In 2016, Barrow Ladies played in the Merit League and were based at Barrow Island ARLFC. They initially had difficulty in finding opponents as many of their games were cancelled. Barrow had previously had a women's team that had included Great Britain internationals such as Lindsay Anfield, Sally Milburn and Allie and Liz Kitchin, but by 2016 it had been more than ten years since Barrow had last played a competitive home fixture. Leigh Miners Rangers
Leigh Miners Rangers are a community amateur rugby league football club from Leigh in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester. The club currently competes in the National Conference League, the National Conference Premier Division. The club also operates an A team, Masters, an Under 18's team, and numerous junior teams. In 2022, Miners Rangers also fielded a Ladies side in the RFL Women's Super League Group 2. The club was founded in 1966 as Leigh Miners Welfare. The club later merged with the junior club Leigh Rangers, and changed its name to Leigh Miners Rangers. The club have defeated professional opposition twice in the Challenge Cup. RFL Women's Nines
The RFL Women's Nines is a rugby league nines competition played as a pre season tournament ahead of the RFL Women's Super League. It is the first Women's Rugby League title in Europe to award prize money. 2022 On 30 March, the RFL announced that the inaugural RFL Women's Nines tournament would take place on 1 May. The competition saw teams from across RFL Women's Super League and RFL Women's Super League South, as well as selected invitational teams compete for six spaces in the final competition. The qualifiers saw 20 teams play in five groups of four with each group leader advancing to the final stage along with one wildcard team. Catalans Dragons, Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, St Helens, and York City Knights were the five teams to advance as group leaders. In British rugby league, winning the Treble currently refers to winning the Super League Grand Final, League Leaders' Shield, and Challenge Cup in the same season. Up until 1973 this was achieved by winning the Championship Final, finishing top of the league during the regular season, and winning the Challenge Cup. Between 1973 and 1996, following the abolition of the Championship Final, the league leaders were declared season champions. In this era, the Premiership was the third trophy required for the treble. Only six teams have completed the treble, and it has only been achieved four times during the Super League era. Wigan Warriors are the most successful team, winning the treble on four occasions. Huddersfield Giants Women are the women's rugby league team of Huddersfield Giants from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. They compete in the RFL Women's Super League, playing their home games at Laund Hill and double header matches with the men's team at the John Smith's Stadium. History In December 2017, plans were announced for a Huddersfield Giants girls' under-19s team with the aim of developing a team to compete in the 2018 Super League.
