RCN Televisión, branded as Canal RCN (''Radio Cadena Nacional'') is a Colombian free-to-air television network owned by Organización Ardila Lülle. It was founded as a television production company on March 23, 1967, and officially launched as an independent channel on July 10, 1998. Its main shareholder is Carlos Ardila Lülle. It produced ''Yo soy Betty, la fea'', one of the most successful Colombian telenovelas. History RCN Television was created as a television arm of the RCN Radio network. In 1967, RCN Radio took part in the bidding for spaces in the official television network, getting one hour a day which was split into two series: one made in Colombia named ''El Hogar'' (The Home) and the American television series '' Bewitched''. ''Yo soy Betty, la fea'' (English: I am Betty, the Ugly one), often referred to simply as ''Betty, la fea'', is a Colombian telenovela created by Fernando Gaitán. It aired from 25 October 1999 to 8 May 2001 on RCN. Ana MarÃa Orozco stars as the titular character, alongside Jorge Enrique Abello, Natalia RamÃrez, Lorna Cepeda, Luis Mesa and Julián Arango. Producciones PUNCH was a Colombian ''programadora''. It was the first ''programadora'' to be established in 1956, founded by the Peñaranda family. Miss Colombia (Formally ''Concurso Nacional de Belleza de Colombia'', English: ''"National Beauty Contest of Colombia"'') is the national beauty pageant organization in Colombia. The current Miss Colombia is Catalina Duque Abréu of Antioquia, who was crowned on 10 November 2024. In Television in Colombia, Colombian broadcasting, ''programadoras'' (literally ''programmer'') are companies that produce television programs, especially for the public-commercial Canal Uno (and, until 2003, Canal A/Segunda Cadena). The Colombian television model from 1954 to the late 1990s, known as the ''sistema mixto'' ("mixed system"), relied on ''programadoras'' as the sole producers of programs that aired on the two major channels. Following the introduction of two national private television channels to the country in the late 1990s, the recession of that same time period and a resulting combination of falling ratings and declining advertising revenues, the ''programadoras'' went into a tailspin that led to many closing in bankruptcy or becoming production companies for the private networks.
