Public Libraries In Ontario
This is a list of public libraries in Ontario. Ontario public libraries are created by municipal by-laws and governed by public library boards. The Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture has responsibility for the administration of the Public Libraries Act. The ministry's Culture Services Unit provides support for the public library system and the Ontario Library Service deliver programs on behalf of the ministry. Public Library
A public library is a library, most often a lending library, that is accessible by the general public and is usually funded from public sources, such as taxes. It is operated by librarians and library paraprofessionals, who are also Civil service, civil servants. There are five fundamental characteristics shared by public libraries: # they are generally supported by taxes (usually local, though any level of government can and may contribute); # they are governed by a board to serve the public interest; # they are open to all, and every community member can access the collection; # they are entirely voluntary, no one is ever forced to use the services provided; and # they provide library and information services without charge. Assiginack Public Library
Assiginack () is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located on Manitoulin Island. An Ontario Historical Plaque was built on the grounds of the Assiginack Museum by the province to commemorate the Manitoulin Treaties' role in Ontario's heritage. The township is named after Jean-Baptiste Assiginack, an Odawa chief who supported the signing of the Manitoulin Treaty of 1862. Communities The principal community in the township is Manitowaning. Smaller communities in the township include Bass Creek, Bidwell, Clover Valley, Eagles Nest, Hilly Grove, The Slash, Squirrel Town and Vanzant's Point. Manitowaning Manitowaning is the administrative centre of Assiginack township. The town was founded in 1836 as a centre of the island's Aboriginal education. Barrie Public Library
The Barrie Public Library (abbreviated as BPL) is the public library system in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It consists of three branches that host a catalogue of more than 25,000 items. Location The Downtown Branch is located at 60 Worsley Street in downtown Barrie, near City Hall. The Painswick Branch is located at 48 Dean Avenue, near Yonge Street and Big Bay Point Road. The Holly branch is located at 555 Essa Road (in the Food Basics parking lot). BPL also has kiosks at Allandale Recreation Centre and the East Bayfield Community Centre. History The library system was incorporated in 1862, and the first reading room was established in 1871. The current current Downtown branch and hub of the library system was constructed in 1996. The Painswick branch opened on March 12, 2012 and the Holly branch opened on August 5, 2022.
