Popularity
In sociology, popularity is how much a person, idea, place, item or other concept is either liked or accorded status by other people. Liking can be due to reciprocal liking, interpersonal attraction, and similar factors. Social status can be due to Dominance (ethology), dominance, superiority, and similar factors. For example, a kind person may be considered likable and therefore more popular than another person, and a wealthy person may be considered superior (hierarchy), superior and therefore more popular than another person. There are two primary types of interpersonal popularity: perceived and sociometric. Perceived popularity is measured by asking people who the most popular or socially important people in their social group are. Sociometric popularity is measured by objectively measuring the number of connections a person has to others in the group. Popular (Nada Surf Song)
"Popular" is the debut single by American alternative rock band Nada Surf, released in May 1996 from their debut album '' High/Low'', released the following month. Each verse in "Popular" presents, in spoken-word format, sarcastic advice to teenagers taken from the book ''Penny's Guide to Teen-Age Charm and Popularity'' by American actress Gloria Winters. The song reached number 11 on the US '' Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. "Popular" was also a hit in Iceland, topping the country's chart for two weeks, and in France, where it reached number 10 and received a gold certification for sales of over 250,000. The song additionally reached the top 40 in New Zealand, Sweden, and the Wallonia region of Belgium. Mitch Prinstein
Mitchell J. Prinstein is an author and psychology professor. He is the former Director of Clinical Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also served as the John Van Seters Distinguished Professor and Assistant Dean of Honors Carolina, UNC's Honors program. He is a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science. He currently serves as the Chief of Psychology Strategy and Integration for the American Psychological Association (APA), where he previously served on the board of directors and then as the Chief Science Officer. ''The Popular Magazine'' was an early American literary magazine that ran for 612 issues from November 1903 to October 1931. It featured short fiction, novellas, serialized larger works, and even entire short novels. The magazine's subject matter ranged over a number of genres, although it tended somewhat towards men's adventure stories, particularly in the waning years of the publication when the vogue for hardboiled fiction was strong. Van Hunt Jr. (born March 8, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer.
