''Planescape'' is a campaign setting for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game, designed by Zeb Cook, and published by TSR in 1994. Description ''Planescape'' encompasses numerous planes of existence, creating an entire cosmology called the Great Wheel, which was originally developed in the 1987 ''Manual of the Planes'' by Jeff Grubb. This includes many of the other ''Dungeons & Dragons'' worlds, linking them via inter-dimensional magical portals. Faction (Planescape)
The Factions are fictional philosophically based power groups in the Planescape campaign setting for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game. Background While the Lady of Pain is considered the ultimate ruler of the planar metropolis called Sigil, "the City of Doors", the Factions perform virtually all the actual administrative and practical functions of the city. They are the ones the people look to for authority; the Lady only gives edicts or appears personally under rare circumstances. Each of the Factions is based around one particular belief system; many of the Factions' beliefs make them enemies where their other goals and actions might have made them allies. All Factions hold many secrets from non-members and even their own members, for the fewer who know a secret, the more secret it is (and these are secrets of power, either wielded or potentially gained by the Faction's adversaries). Sigil ( ) is a fictional city and the center of the Planescape campaign setting, for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game. Publication history Development Sigil was originally created for Planescape as the setting's "home base". According to Steve Winter in ''30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons'', "a movable base, like a vessel of some sort (or an artifact, which was the original idea for the means of traversing the planes) wouldn't do it. It had to be a place that characters could come home to when they needed to, and it had to be central to the nature of the setting". ''Wolf Devil Woman'' (Mandarin: 狼女白魔, pronounced ''Lang nu bai mo''), also known as ''Wolfen Ninja'', is a 1982 Taiwanese fantasy horror film starring, written, produced and directed by Pearl Chang. The English- dubbed version of the film is notable for its bizarre vocal performances, particularly the vocal performance for the film's antagonist, "The Devil", who speaks like American cartoon character Yosemite Sam. ''Naked Lunch'' is a 1991 surrealist science fiction drama film written and directed by David Cronenberg and starring Peter Weller, Judy Davis, Ian Holm, and Roy Scheider. , translated as ''The Narrow Road to the Deep North'' and ''The Narrow Road to the Interior'', is a major work of ''haibun'' by the List of Japanese language poets, Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō, considered one of the major texts of Japanese literature of the Edo period. The first edition was published posthumously in 1702. The text is written in the form of a prose and Verse (poetry), verse Travel literature, travel diary and was penned as Bashō made an epic and dangerous journey on foot through the Edo period, Edo Japan of the late 17th century. While the Poetry, poetic work became seminal of its own account, the poet's travels in the text have since inspired many people to follow in his footsteps and trace his journey for themselves. Originally written in Serbian, the novel has been translated into many languages. It was first published in English by Knopf, New York City, in 1988. There is no easily discerned plot in the conventional sense, but the central question of the book (the mass religious conversion of the Khazar people) is based on a historical event generally dated to the last decades of the 8th century or the early 9th century when the Khazar royalty and nobility converted to Judaism, and part of the general population followed. ''Alexander Nevsky'' (') is the score composed by Sergei Prokofiev for Sergei Eisenstein's 1938 film ''Alexander Nevsky''. The subject of the film is the 13th century incursion of the knights of the Livonian Order into the territory of the Novgorod Republic, their capture of the city of Pskov, the summoning of Prince Alexander Nevsky to the defense of Rus', and his subsequent victory over the crusaders in 1242. The majority of the score's song texts were written by the poet Vladimir Lugovskoy. In 1939, Prokofiev arranged the music of the film score as the cantata ''Alexander Nevsky'', Op. 78, for contralto (often sung by mezzo-sopranos but not in fact in that range), chorus and orchestra.
