A partisan is a member of a domestic irregular military force formed to oppose control of an area by a foreign power or by an army of military occupation, occupation by some kind of insurgent activity. Partisan Records is an independent record label with offices in London, Berlin, and Los Angeles, as well as in New York City, where the company was co-founded in 2007 by Tim Putnam and Ian Wheeler. The label, initially run out of Putnam's South Brooklyn apartment, relocated in 2009 to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Williamsburg. History Holy Sons (band), Holy Sons (''Decline of the West'') was the first release on the label, and early success followed shortly thereafter with the signing of the band Deer Tick (band), Deer Tick (''War Elephant (album), War Elephant''). ''Partisan Review'' (''PR'') was a left-wing small-circulation quarterly "little magazine" dealing with literature, politics, and cultural commentary published in New York City. The magazine was launched in 1934 by the Communist Party USA–affiliated John Reed Club of New York City and was initially part of the Communist political orbit. Growing disaffection on the part of ''PR''s primary editors began to make itself felt, and the magazine abruptly suspended publication in the fall of 1936. When the magazine reemerged late in 1937, it came with additional editors and new writers who advanced a political line deeply critical of Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a political organization in the United States and the country's largest socialist organization. ''Partisans 1941'' () is a real-time tactics video game developed by Alter Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment in 2020. Players control Soviet partisans fighting against invading German troops during World War II. Gameplay The game has many similarities to '' Commandos 2''. Players control a group of Soviet partisans during Operation Barbarossa, Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union. The enemy soldiers have cones of vision that the partisans must stay out of to maintain stealth. The partisans are equipped with tools for distraction and silent killing alongside more conventional and louder weapons. In contrast to ''Commandos 2'', this game features a resource management sub-game. The partisans don't start off fully equipped and have to scavenge weapons from their enemies. ''The Partisans'' is a 1979 aluminum sculpture by the Polish-American sculptor Andrzej Pitynski that has been exhibited in Boston, Massachusetts, since 1983. New Partisans was a short-lived mid-1980s movement on the Yugoslav rock scene. The term was used to denote albums by Sarajevo-based bands Bijelo Dugme, Plavi Orkestar and Merlin which were characterized by pop rock and power pop sound with elements of folk music and lyrics and imagery heavily inspired by Yugoslav Partisans and the ideals of Yugoslavism. The Partisans are a Welsh punk rock band formed in Bridgend, South Wales, in early 1978, when all four members were in their early teens. They continued until 1984, having several hits on the UK Indie Chart. The band re-formed in the late 1990s. History The band formed in early 1978, with an original line-up of Phil Stanton (vocals), Rob "Spike" Harrington (guitar and vocals), Andy Lealand (guitar), Mark "Shark" Harris (drums), and Mark "Savage" Parsons (bass guitar). Parsons and Stanton left in 1979, with Harrington moving to lead vocals, and Lealand's girlfriend Louise Wright joining on bass.
